Now airport shopping rebels refuse to show their boarding passes: Revolt grows after it emerged retailers make millions from tax discount without lowering prices

I have to admit, I have fallen fowl to this airport scam and handed over my boarding card thinking it was required if I was to make a purchase. I can see this been another compensation claiming fiasco in the making though.

Companies such as World Duty Free must have been raking it in for years.

The linked report makes the valid point that all too often these days inconvenience and extracting additional dosh from passengers is blamed on the spectre of security and terrorism issues when, actually, it's really only for the convenience of airports or airlines or retailers, usually with a financial gain in mind.
