They are looking to compete with Blue Air on these routes, bar one, which is new. Its a good move however and cements Liverpool's relationship with Wizz. Blue are used to competing with them out of Luton, so will see.

Be nice to see Wizz expand to Med destinations from Liverpool like they do from Luton.

They'd probably need to base for that to happen I'd have thought.

A friend of mine was working in Crewe this week and he mentioned that there is a significant Romanian population in the town which suggests these additions from LPL are a no brainier.

we couldn`t get one except from Luton now there are two from Liverpool

I read Wizz are introducing LTN-LIS. This route will become vacant from LPL in October when Easyjet leave it. It is an established route with good load factor, fares can be eye wateringly high at times, so I would expect it's yields are good. I wonder if Wizz will jump in to fill the gap, would be a good move for them.

For that type of route Wizz would need to base but if they are going to add more bases then LPL is no doubt high on the list. It is odd that EZY withdraws a route that appears to do well for them leaving it as a potential route for a rival.

I have read that Wizz Air are planning to use their A321 a bit more on Budapest route and Warsaw route.

Wizz Airs 3 new routes from LPL have recently began , the routes will operate under their new UK registered W9 iata code.


Wizz Air whisks up 11 new routes for the start of the W18/19 season

On 29 October Wizz Air launched operations from Cluj-Napoca and Iasi to Liverpool, while from 30 October it will also link to the UK city from Bucharest. Seen celebrating the new routes with the Wizz Air crew is Declan Maguire, Aviation Development Manager, Liverpool Airport. Cluj-Napoca and Iasi routes will be flown twice-weekly.

Wizz Air has added Varna to its network from Liverpool. Starting in July it'll operate 4 weekly Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

Wizz Air bring LJLA early Christmas present with news of another new route

Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe have today announced another new route from Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA), with flights to commence next Summer to the Bulgarian Black Sea resort of Varna.

Flights will commence on 1st July 2019, operating to Varna three times a week with departures on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
This latest new service will be the airline’s 8th route from Liverpool complementing their existing seven routes to Warsaw, Gdansk, Katowice, Budapest, Bucharest, Cluj and Iași.

Varna is the largest city and seaside resort on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. It is popular with holidaymakers, is a major tourist destination and often described as the area’s most interesting and cosmopolitan town.

Paul Winfield, Director of Aviation Development for Liverpool John Lennon Airport commented, “We are delighted to see the addition of this new route to Varna which becomes the Airport’s 70th destination and Wizz Air’s 4th new route from Liverpool for Summer 2019, taking the airline’s number of frequencies to over 20 a week next Summer.

Passengers from across the North West and North Wales will now have the opportunity to fly direct from Liverpool to summer holiday resorts along the Black Sea Coast.

We have seen a host of destinations added to the Airport’s network of flights over the past year and annual passenger numbers rise to over 5 million, with 2019 looking like another busy year for the airport.”

What would be good is for Wizz to do at Liverpool as they are in Luton base an aircraft and look at unserved destinations beyond their Eastern European base. Still welcome addition none the less.

As a side line they were using the A321 yesterday into Liverpool.

Low-cost carrier Wizz Air now operates eight routes out of Liverpool Airport

Ryanair and Wizz Air, who between them operate around 40 routes out of Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) are both reporting soaring passenger number for April.
Dublin-based Ryanair, which operates more than 30 routes from Liverpool, said traffic for the month was up 10% to 13.5m passengers while Hungarian budget carrier Wizz Air, which will soon launch its eighth LJLA route, saw a rise of 19% to 3.28m passengers.
In July Wizz will begin flying from Liverpool to the Bulgarian Black Sea resort of Varna adding to its existing services to Warsaw, Gdansk, Katowice, Budapest, Bucharest, Cluj and Iasi.

Wizz saw its seat capacity rise 17.6% to 3.57m after bringing extra aircraft into its fleet, and load factor, which is the percentage of seats filled, was up 91.9% compared to 90.9% in April last year.
Ryanair said it operated more than 75,000 flights in April with a load factor of 96%. Its rolling annual passenger traffic figure was 142.3m, up 9% year-on-year.

( I have noted Wizz have been using A321s fairly often on flights in and out of Liverpool, good to see. )
