Route cut

Ryanair will not be operating flights between Manchester and Madrid during the winter. Ryanair say this is because of the doubling of government departure taxes in Spain.

Ryanair route news:

Madrid:
Has returned to the booking engine for winter. 4 times weekly using the current 4 weekly schedule.

Gdansk:
New 2 times weekly flight from 7th November

Riga:
New 2 times weekly from 9th November

Paris BVA:
4 times weekly service dropped from 1st November.

Thanks for the update user001

It's a funny old world. Ryanair scrapped Madrid because of the new Spanish government tax if you remember. The tax remains but the routes back! It's fine if Ryanair want to set a stance on things they feel strongly about but most people are getting wise to their little antics, as I am sure are the Spanish government.

The situation is a strange one Aviador, but I expect this is what happened:

The taxes at MAD were an issue, so Ryanair wanted to make a stand and pull routes. MAN was one of the easy ones to cut, with Ryanair, Easyjet and Iberia on the route.

Then, it turns out Easyjet and Iberia also cut the route, at the same time, so, looking at the situation, Ryanair had a change of heart.

Either that, or MAN have given them a 'sweetener' to continue the route, in the face of the other 2 arriers pulling off the route.

However, given Easyjet are basing 2 more aircraft at MAN next year, and the fact Madrid has not been 'officially' dropped by them, they may well return to the route next year. Time will tell.

Ryanair have announced 5 new routes and 1 new aircraft for Manchester.

Krakow, Trapani, Corfu, Lanzarote and Paphos.

However, Krakow will be a Krakow based aircraft when the base opens, so, with just 4 routes to 1 aircraft, I would expect more routes in time.

That's unless they don't add extra capacity on other already served routes. As this has happened at other bases over the years.

Based on the current timetables, Ryanair will be basing 6 aircraft at MAN next summer.

There is a requirement on 5 days for 6 based in the morning departure wave, and 2 routes still need to be put on sale, Tours and Biarritz, which could fill the gaps in the other days.

Ryanair seem to have gone a bit overboard with their expansion today.

Manchester-Dublin will go from 3 and 4 daily to 5 daily

It seems the Liverpool-Zadar route will move to Manchester next summer. 2 weekly Mon and Fri. Another blow for LPL after it was found that the base will shrink next year.

Another new route for summer 2014.

Bologna 3 weekly Tue, Thu and Fri from April.

Seems Ryanair are on the expansion offensive.

7 based aircraft required for 4 days a week thus far, and as well as Zadar and Bologna, Barcelona (BCN) has now appeared on the Ryanair site but with no dates loaded yet.

Ryanair increases for Summer 2014:

Thus far based aircraft from 6 to 7

New routes:

Barcelona BCN Daily (not really an increases as Girona reduced from 10 weekly to 3 weekly to accommodate the new route)

Bologna 3 weekly

Fuerteventura 2 weekly

Gran Canaria 2 weekly

Route increases:

Ibiza 4 weekly > 5 weekly
Lanzarote 3 weekly > 6 weekly
Madrid 4 weekly > 5 weekly
Tenerife 6 weekly > Daily
Malaga 9 weekly > 10 weekly

New flights total: 21

Decreases for 2014 based on 2013:

Warsaw 3 weekly > 2 weekly
Brussels CRL 13 weekly > 12 weekly
Girona 7 weekly > 3 weekly (was due to go 10 weekly as mentioned above but never actually operated at this frequency)
Paris BVA 4 weekly > 3 weekly

Flights lost: 7

Net increase of 14 flights which equates to the extra based aircraft, and Katowice still to be loaded.

Forgot to add the Dublin increases which are now bookable. Frequency up from 24 weekly to 31 weekly, 5 daily most days.

2 more routes have appeared on the drop down list for Manchester.

Lisbon- as part of the new base just announced for there.

Zadar- rumoured and now showing on the site.

I make it 35 routes now, although 36 are loaded due to Milan Bergamo closing for 2 months so Milan MXP listed too.

Its also worth pointing out that back when BCN/FUE/BLQ and LPA were announced just last week, Ryanair said Manchester would have 33 routes this summer.

With 35 routes confirmed and bookable in the drop down menu, there could be more expansion as we already have 2 more routs than we should!

I need to edit that Ryanair actually have 38 routes bookable for this coming summer season, not 35.

Winter flights have started to be loaded for MAN.

Barcelona, Fuerteventura, Lisbon and Gran Canaria continue from this summer.

Eindhoven is a new route at 4 weekly from October 26th

Madrid increases to 6 weekly
Riga increases to 3 weekly
Warsaw increases to 3 weekly

Other increases are to be loaded but not on the website yet.

7 based aircraft to remain in place for the winter.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
