There's a rumour on another forum that Uzbekistan may be returning to BHX sometime this year. Anyone else heard this at all?

Not keen on your username but heyho,if Uzbek were to return it would have to be with JFK added and I cant see that happening

The only thing Uzbekistan would have going for them at BHX is the link to ATQ but with Air India, Turkmenistan and Qatar covering all the bases I really don't think they'd last long if they were to return. As for JFK they are planning on dropping the stop in Riga and making it a direct flight from Tashkent once the 787s arrive.

Personally I don't ever see them coming back.

any source for this rumour?

The poster states the rumour come from two people who work at the airport (one of them with Emirates).

Interesting one, the rumour is that they'll be using a 763 which, if true, suggests a stop en route to somewhere.

I agree with Thunderchild about India having alot of capacity, but, could they be after the ATQ-YYZ market with a stop in Birmingham each way to top up the numbers?

Tom Screen did say that they were after growth into Canada.

There's growth into canada, but a 2x weekly transit to Toronto via Uzbekistan isn't going to drag in the crowds! Be interesting to see such a niche route back though but I wouldn't want to put a lot of eggs into that basket!

I dony think it would be via Tashkent woody, it would most likely be Tashkent-BHX-YYZ ???

But yeah i agree especially with all the unrest in that area, who on earth would fly to YYZ with an airline from Uzbekistan. It could become another Biman saga but i firmly believe BHX have grown up a little since those silly years, a few years ago.

If (and it's a big if) it's true then I think this would be more about Amritsar-Toronto market rather than BHX-Toronto market. It's no secret that ATQ want direct flights to Birmingham and London (without the stop in Delhi) and more links to Toronto. Making two stops en route to Canada is far from ideal but if that's all that's on offer at the moment?

Past record shows that these flights had been in profit. The Amritsar-Birmingham-Toronto flight, withdrawn on October 31, 2010, was the most successful flight in the national carrier’s history because its occupancy was over 90 per cent.

Withdrawing international flights to Toronto and domestic flights to Chandigarh from Amritsar indicated discrimination with the state. Hundreds of people fly to Canada daily from Punjab. Now, they will have to spend more to board flights from New Delhi."

It's all just guesswork though, firstly we don't know of they're definitely coming back, secondly if they do return we don't know for sure that it will be a 763. If it is just to be Birmingham to Tashkent then I'd have thought a 757 more appropriate?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
