Just two weeks after launching an exciting Summer 22 programme from Bristol Airport, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays has put on almost 400 additional flights to a wide range of popular hotspots in response to demand for Summer 22 holidays.

On top of this, the leading leisure airline and package holiday specialist has also added another two brand new destinations for local holidaymakers to enjoy in Summer 22 – MALAGA (COSTA DEL SOL) and LARNACA (CYPRUS).

This means Jet2.com and Jet2holidays has a total of SIX brand new summer destinations on sale for Summer 22 from Bristol Airport (including Paphos, Alicante, Bodrum and Dubrovnik), taking the number of destinations on sale from its newest base for next summer to 35.

Since announcing its Summer 22 programme two weeks ago, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays has seen strong demand from customers looking to get away for some much-needed sunshine. As well as booking and travelling on award-winning flights and ATOL protected package holidays from Bristol Airport, customers get to experience and enjoy the company’s VIP customer service which has seen Jet2.comand Jet2holidays repeatedly win high-profile accolades such as Which? Recommended Provider andTripAdvisor’s Best Airline – UK and Top 10 Airlines of the World.

This VIP customer service includes friendly flight times, as well as a generous 22kg baggage allowance and 10kg hand luggage allowance through a flight-only booking with Jet2.com, which saw the airline win five accolades at the 2020 TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice® Awards for Airlines; or that very same VIP customer service, in-resort Customer Helpers, transfers, free child places and ATOL protection with the UK’s second largest tour operator, Jet2holidays.

The company has continued this customer-first strategy throughout the Coronavirus pandemic, winning praise from customers, consumer organisations, media, and independent travel agents for how it has looked after customers affected by programme changes. This includes Jet2.com and Jet2holidays ranking as the number one and two travel firms for providing refunds, according to a travel refund cancellation survey of more than 77,000 people by MoneySavingExpert.com (MSE). In addition, Jet2.com was recognised as the only UK airline to promptly provide refunds without significant backlogs, following a review by the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: “Since we announced the launch of flights and holidays from Bristol Airport, the response has been absolutely magnificent. Our reputation for looking after customers and delivering real package holidays has really cut through, and we have been very encouraged by the number of bookings coming through from customers and independent travel agents as a result of that. Customers clearly want their all-important holidays to look forward to, so we have responded quickly by adding thousands of additional seats to a range of brilliant hotspots from Bristol Airport. We haven’t stopped there, and we are delighted to be adding two more brand new destinations for customers to choose from for Summer 22, with Costa Del Sol and Larnaca joining Paphos, Alicante, Dubrovnik and Bodrum as brand new summer destinations next year. This growth, and the response to our Summer 22 programme, shows how much customers want to get away with an award-winning airline and tour operator to the sunshine.”

I've just posted this in the Jet2 airline thread.

Further suspension of Jet2 operations - up to and including 14 April 2021. So they have lost the big Easter market. I think it extremely unlikely that Jet2 will be alone in either suspending or greatly reducing operations in the first part of April. As things stand the remainder of April and perhaps beyond don't look any more promising.

Looks like Jet2 base delayed until end June
It certainly looks like a longish delay. A few days ago the below linked article appeared on a local (BRS) aviation website written by a former posting member of F4A. The relevant paragraph is here:

From a source at Jet2 the airline has cancelled all flights up to 14th April 2021 with the possibility of flights resuming in May or June 2021, this is obviously not the start the airline wanted for its new base but with ongoing travel restrictions any start of operations has had to be delayed.

Not the best of starts, but for obvious and understandable reasons, although there will undoubtedly be some who will have had their bookings cancelled who will take a jaundiced view of what to them is a new airline. After the hope and expectation last year that 2021 would be a much better year than 2020 for overseas travel and holidays it seems that major problems will still exist, with UK government ministers hinting strongly that it will be extremely limited at best and Scotland's ubiquitous leader saying she doesn't think it likely that such journeys will be possible at all. Even if the UK sees restrictions eased back considerably by June/July it doesn't take into account the attitude of overseas governments.

If things still look difficult by mid-summer Jet2 might have to decide whether to postpone the base opening until 2022, or at least until next winter, with the hope that 2022 really will see a great improvement in conditions for overseas travel.

Further to my earlier post #89, Jet2 have now offered an explanation as to why they have pushed back the start of their BRS operations by three months to 1 July this year - see below linked article.

The pertinent part of the liked article is this:

Moving the launch date to July 1 allows us to ready our brand-new operation at Bristol Airport, including the delivery of our VIP customer service which we know will be hugely popular with customers in the region.

Given that the base was announced last November I find it puzzling that, if the explanation is to be believed, it is only now that they find themselves unable to begin on the originally announced date, or at least two weeks later than that along with the other bases. Furthermore, would the commencement have been delayed if there was no pandemic?

All other Jet2 bases are due to resume in mid-April although obviously no-one knows at the moment which routes, if any, will be allowed to operate by governments at that time whether in the UK or abroad.

The other bases are mature bases so that might be the real reason for delaying the BRS base commencement when allied to the pandemic uncertainty.

As international travel will not be permitted from England until 17 May at the earliest, Jet2 and Jet2 Holidays have now suspended all flights until 16 May. This means that the delay to the BRS base opening now only amounts to six weeks for all practical purposes.

A number of routes will not be operating until 2022 - Naples , Izmir and Reus being just 3. Reductions in others - Rhodes and zante and faro will not start till sept 2021

I wonder whether Jet2 will now regret beginning the base this year. In fairness, when it was announced last November the industry believed that summer 2021 would see a substantial recovery, something that now seems less likely. Summer 2022 might have been a better bet, assuming the world will be on a much surer virus footing by then.

I guess a smaller programme is better than nothing at all. It could also build awareness for a busier winter 21/22 and then leading to a better summer 22.

They could still suspend it until 2022 or launch in winter?

Jet2 had already put back the base launch by three months to 1 July this year, whist keeping open their options for restarting their other bases as soon as the government allows overseas travel.

They gave as the reason a need to 'ready our brand-new operation at Bristol Airport'. It seemed an odd explanation in some ways having announced the start date in their base announcement last November, but perhaps the Covid uncertainty had delayed their preparation.

Now it appears there will be further delays, reductions in frequency and in some cases cancellations of routes until summer 2022.

Some might read into this that the public response to the base, perhaps caused at least in part by the pandemic, has not been as robust as the company hoped. However, any thoughts along those lines seem to have been negated by the company CEO, Steve Heapy who, a few weeks ago, was reported as saying, 'Since we announced the launch of flights and holidays from Bristol Airport, the response has been absolutely magnificent'.

At that time new destinations and extra flights to other destinations were been added to the summer 2022 programme. So perhaps it's the case that the bulk of interest is coming for summer 2022 with many people still reluctant or hesitant about booking for this summer.

Jet2 will know that the continuing negative changes to their BRS programme is not something that will increase confidence in booking in an area where the airline and holiday company is not well-known, so clearly they must have sound reasons for their actions.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
