I have a funny feeling @TheLocalYokel BRS maybe pushed back that little bit longer. Mid July is the feeling in my bones.
I know that you have a good knowledge of Jet2. Do you mean that Jet2 as an airline will be pushed back beyond 1 July (I know it is currently looking at 24 June) or just BRS? If the latter why do you think it will be pushed back further?

If, by the beginning of July, the likes of easyJet, Ryanair and TUI are beginning to see some sort of movement at BRS would it not do a new brand in the South West some harm if Jet2 are still non-operational, especially with those who have booked and then been cancelled on what turned out to be green routes being operated by the other airlines in early July?

I was very surprised when last autumn I heard that Jet2 was going to announce a new base at BRS for summer 2021, given the uncertainties of the pandemic. I wonder if they now regret not waiting until summer 2022 before beginning.

Was this in the initial launch. Wonder if they are pushing it for some seats on bums?

In terms of carriers it would be very interesting to see where Jet2 is in terms of flights per week/seats? I would imagine 3rd not far behind easyJet and TAP.

Re: Potential for flights to be pushed back further.

As I think Jet2 SH said, this isn't just about saying right lads, back to work and off we go. There's a huge amount of strategic planning involved to get the airline back up and running. Airport and airline staff need re-training. Resort staff with need deploying. Many will even need recruiting as they work on a seasonal basis. This is a nightmare situation for Jet2 and TUI in particular.

Airport press release today re Jet2 route to Funchal. Has this been reported before? Commences this winter and is year-round. A bit of competition for easyJet.

Just looked at the Jet2.com app and flights are now in the booking engine from 19th July 2021, flight times and prices all showing????

I was on the airport site today for the first time in over a year and noticed that the prominent three-sided sail-type advertising facility on the small roundabout on the main entrance road to the airport features Jet2. I think the previous 'occupant' was TUI. The advertising says that Jet2 will have 38 routes. Many are seasonal though.

Anyone know what the inaugural route will be? Last heard when they were suppose to start the new base that the first flight would be Lanzarote.

I think it makes it 7 aircraft needed for Sunday’s now
Does Jet2 operate W-diagrams? It seems unlikely in the extreme that seven aircraft will be based in summer 2022 so in the absence of W-diagrams it seems inevitable that there will be alterations and anyone booking one of the Sunday flights now might find the day or time of operation altered by the time summer 2022 comes around. Then again, that is always a risk for passengers with any airline, especially when booking far in advance.

There are a number of jet2 destinations yet to be served from Bristol including Bulgaria and Malta so who know number 7 could be coming. There’s no reason why it shouldn’t . It might just be a wait and see

W patterns were a thing of the past from the airline. They did them in the former years when fleet was not as big; but wanting to serve destinations a plenty from certain bases. Of course as they grow into Jet2holidays/Jet2.com and a different animal/beast W patterns were dropped and few and far between. Perhaps we will see; with only a x amount of resources the return of W patterns. It is however a day tie up for the aircraft and for one destination only.

I think the PMI/ALC bases which they operated prior to covid substituted the need for W patterns.

Ooooo I haven't heard that @Marko1 but 7 in what well could be a full operational summer in a new base is impressive.

Does that mean there are already six aircraft due to be based in summer 2022? I believe the original figure for summer 2021 was three based aircraft.

Yes six were scheduled for summer 22 with 4 originally planned for peak summer 21. With these two additional Sunday services it would need 7 to service them if there are no changes.

Thank you. I wasn't aware of that. I thought it was three this summer and four next summer.

A poster on the BRS TUI thread wonders if TUI will react, presumably adversely, to Jet2. Six or seven aircraft is considerably more than the three that Thomas Cook had, and TUI had already responded to the TCX departure with considerable growth planned for summer 20 which in the event became victim to the pandemic.

If Ryanair does increase its BRS offering, as was hinted at this week, it begs the question as to whether there would be too much capacity in summer 2022 even if there is a major rebound from the pandemic effects. easyJet might not grow or even reduce slightly given that they had planned a reduction in fleet size and that was before the virus came along.

There is a school of thought that Jet2 got its feet under the table with a view to the future in case BRS is pegged at 10 mppa permanently. Six or seven aircraft represent pretty big feet for a newcomer to the airport.

Following the announcements this afternoon of no new green countries , easyJet have taken Malta off their app. Portugal now amber as well . I’m not sure how airlines are meant to survive much longer and is it worth jet2 starting this year now or wizz starting over in cardiff.

Replying to above post that appeared in BRS easyJet thread.

I've lost track of when Jet2 is meant to begin at BRS. The original start date was pushed back to 1 July this year with the remainder of the Jet2 network beginning earlier which was then pushed back towards the end of June.

I don't know now when Jet2 intends commencing flights from other bases, and with the government switching countries from one coloured list to another it must be extremely hard for any airline to make concrete plans.

I've no doubt that Jet2, like all airlines, will be considering a range of options and I suppose it's conceivable that delaying the opening of the BRS base until next year could be one. Nothing now surprises me in these uncertain times for aviation.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
