It just shows how much I know about running an airline after suggesting last week that they would be daft to open a new base.

Perhaps it should have taken more notice of the Jet2 adverts. They have had a lot of adverts on the tv and every time they would say from your local airport with out naming them.Might have been a crafty way of telling us they were on the way into BRS.Never put the numbers togeather to make the correct number adding them togeather. Best of luck to them for starting a new base in these diffacult times.

A very interesting article especially about a plan for 5 weekly Reus from Ryanair . I wonder if Ryanair is planning some form expansion hence the reason why a handful of routes are not yet on sale. Secondly it’s also interesting to note that not one airline will be offering Tunisia next summer - maybe an option for easyJet .

I noticed the Ryanair/Reus comment. A bit odd considering that Reus has been in and out of the FR BRS schedules for a number of years, and in recent times it's been peak summer only. TUI is due to operate Reus 2 x weekly in summer 2021.

Very strange that there is no Tunisia offering in any system for next summer. The only one I can find in the BRS/CWL/EXT 'region' is a weekly TUI Enfidha flight from CWL.

My alter ego has finally got hold of some analysis she does on Jet2. With this new launch of the base what is very interesting to note is that Jet2 currently serve 14 Greek destinations with only MAN STN having all 14. BHX serves 13 with JMK missing. BRS however does have 12 with the only two missing being JMK and CHQ. For a new base this is very interesting point to note. It defo feels very much like the BRS launch is a bit of a TC replacement and natural expansion of the Jet2/Jet2holidays brand. Will be very much interesting to see where the next few years go.

Boy for a low cost airline their holidays are not cheap.......most of what I was looking at was £1200 pp or above...

Low cost doesn't necessarily mean cheap prices! Flight only they aren't cheap either.
From what I've read about them it seems their selling point is better customer service than their rivals not necessarily being cheap.

As for every other airline website and tour operators website, I would check back in a few weeks. The algorithms will be going mad. Couple a new base with promising covid vaccine and well .... you get them sort of prices.

It seems to me that some people lack a little common sense. The airline/holiday business has been through hell - and still is - and they have to make a profit. Their costs will have gone up in the last 8 months just because of covid and the loans they will have taken out will be at relative high interest rates.

I think people assume Jet2 are more like Easyjet or Ryanair when they're actually more like Thomas Cook were just more successful.

Who ever run airlines services will put prices up if its flight only or a package. They have had hard times all airlines. Some have had bailouts but depends how long this covid 19 goes on for will determine how many airlines stay in business. I recon the day of cheap airline travel is gone as we know it.

The airlines industry will have to strike a balance between making a profit and attracting customers, not scaring them away. So it is also ‘common sense’ for the airlines to consider their pricing. Jet2 markets itself as a loco airline. EZY prices from BRS have been reflecting their loco status and their service has been very good over the years. BRS customers will be used to EZY prices and like me will balk at the Jet2 prices.

There is a school of thought that customers are chomping at the bit to travel. For every scaredy cat there is a intrepid traveller who wants to beat this virus. This lot, apparently, are willing to spend the money saved from their 2020 holidays and plough it into their 2021 holidays. Maybe Jet2 wants a slice of that extra cash and is cynically trying to get at it with inflated prices. Thankfully EZY prices appear to be similar to previous years. I got 2 flights to Funchal in July 2021 for £250 for a couple.

Thank you Jet2 but my custom will stay with EZY if you are reading this thread.

It'll be curious to see if other people make the same decisions after believing Jet2 would be cheap.

MAN has significant Jet2 and easyJet bases. I've just asked in the MAN forum if Jet2 prices are higher than easyJet there.

I don't think Jet2 market themselves as a loco. They may well have done 17 years ago when they first started operations, but since they started Jet2 Holidays they have developed more as an "IT plus" operator. You should compare prices with TUI and in the past, Thomas Cook.
As has previously been said, we are going to have to pay more for our flights, but there will still be bargains around if you can be flexible.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
