Looks like a threat tactic. If (suddenly) it has gone from higher yields than parallel routes in Dublin to being unprofitable with high L/Fs, it is the airline’s fault. Anyway, One World would doubtless replace them, in whatever form.
So clearly these comments are on the Level!

Empty threat surely.

BA / IAG need to make it profitable and currently they are not doing. Which is a shame.

nothing to do with BA. as you note it is owned by IAG and they will decide what to do. whether EI can make a profit for longhaul from MAN is an open question really.

I think everyone is getting a little carried away with this.

Aer Lingus at MAN is profitable despite what has been reported in recent days - all this is is scare tactics for the unions.

The wages are scandalous in all honesty and I fully support the crews fighting for a fair salary.

it seems the quote from the EI ceo is that it is underperforming which is obviously not the same thing. some people have confused that with not profitable, but those two things are not the same.

however, it isn't the case that just because a business unit is profitable it has a right to continue, in fact any sensible business should look at underperforming units and decide where it is best able to place its assets to achieve better margins.

But was producing higher yields than similar routes from DUB just eighteen months ago, according to the same CEO? If it were now underperforming it would suggest the operation is being shoddily run. In that case they should cede and allow another airline to take their routes.

they don't "own" the routes so i am not sure what you mean by allowing another airline to take them? others can already compete if they wish. in fact others already do.

IAG reported their quarterly results a couple of weeks ago. Considering how much of their profitability comes from North Atlantic routes then they give a good insight into the state of the market. To be fair their message has been consistent with others, which is that demand has reduced. Several reasons attributed to this from consumer spending & inflation to Trump and Visas.
IAG said sales of economy leisure seats had been lower over the summer but that premium demand remained strong, both from business and holiday customers. Business bookings had been buoyed by the finance sector and by smaller companies that are less likely to have remote working. They also warned that the recent trend of holidaymakers booking premium or business class seats could slow if household finances come under pressure, particularly in the UK.

I would have thought that the Aer Lingus routes ex MAN are primarily targeted at UK originating holidaymakers so they will be particularly exposed to the final point.

Lots has been written about this so i’m surprised the default reaction is that things are being run shoddily on the part of the airlines.

From Jan to Sept, EI had a seatload factor of 78.85% on the MAN routes. Going in directional travel. MAN-JFK exceeded 92.5% loads in July and August. JFK-MAN for those months 91.6% in August and 78.1% in July. This is from the T-100 US stats

have you got a link?

It would be interesting to know what the difference is between the yield per passenger between Manchester and Dublin.

The CEO indicated a couple of years ago that the yield was higher than on the same routes from DUB. But maybe she was having trouble with the Irish unions then.

To be honest I wouldn’t currently touch them with a barge pole.

Same for others. Then demand drops. Then they have an argument for closing.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
