Easy way to remember is wales play all the blue teams away one year and home the next.

Flybe put an extra flight on but that was it. When Wales play France in Cardiff that usually generates a lot of charters from all over France.

That's surprising. For years away games in France and Ireland were very popular, with Italian away games popular but not generating as many charters. Home games against Italy attracted even less charters with Italian fans.

I think with France now it's easier to get too by coach train and road that has given fans more options. Same with Scotland. Ireland does see a big airlift every year.

Germania which stopped flying last night, were due to operate a rugby charter to Rome on Friday, I wonder if a replacement airline can be found for the rugby fans?

Over 3,500 Irish rugby fans jet into Cardiff

Over the next three days, 50 extra flights will operate in and out of Wales’ national airport carrying over 3,500 excited Irish fans, thanks to scheduled and additional flights with our regular airline Flybe and special extra flights with Enter Air, Ryanair and Aer Lingus.
In total, over this year’s Guinness Six Nations tournament, more than 11,000 Welsh rugby fans flew through Cardiff to catch Wales in action at the ‘Blues away’ matches against Italy, France and Scotland.
Spencer Birns, Commercial Director at Cardiff Airport, said: “Large sporting events like the Guinness Six Nations are always an exciting time both for Wales and for Cardiff Airport.
“We’ve made many improvements to our customer experience recently so this will be an excellent opportunity to showcase these improvements to our Celtic cousins. We’ll be working as a team to prepare for the fans’ arrival and look forward to extending a warm Welsh welcome to our visitors from Ireland.”

Was always down as aer lingus aircraft chartered by Stobart. The ATR72 flights were a typo.

Interesting that Aer Lingus sold them through there website. Kind of a bit weird Aer Lingus aircraft operating for Stobart but selling through their own website.

This has been done for years especially when Stobart used to operate the schedule service themselves under the Aer Lingus Regional Brand.

I remember the days when we used to have the A320/A321/A330 using Stobart callsign then there would be RE flight numbers on the ATR72 which were charters.

As Stobart do not have their own reservation system any flight for general sale would be sold on the Aer Lingus website.

Gone are the days of the Airbus schedule flights with up to 4 ATR72 on the ground day stopping for charter. Rugby airliftbdays are not as fun as they used to be.
