As Cardiff gets a lot sporting events for what is a small but wonderful city! I thought I would create a thread dedicated to sport flights whether they are extra scheduled flights or special charters connected to sport in the area.

Given that CWL doesn't seem to produce a Mayfly I'm never sure where to look for the rugby and football club charters. From memory I don't think that SWAG shows them on its arrivals/departures pages.

With Swansea City in the Premier League where visiting teams frequently arrive by air and Cardiff City in the Championship where some bigger clubs from a long distance away use air transport for matches there is a lot of club football traffic.

There is even more rugby club traffic with four sides in the PRO12 meaning numerous visits to play clubs in Scotland, Ireland and Italy, with those clubs making return visits to Wales. In addition there are the European Cup competitions.

Is there any way of maintaining a full list of rugby and football club flights each week?

Also a possible football charter arriving from Norwich on the 3/2/17 is FR1877 at 16.05 with a departure on the 4/2/17 at 19.30 FR1878 back to Norwich.

I only found out today because I asked on a Cardiff Airport ***Links to other Social Media platforms are not permitted***- page a kind of spotters page and SWAG posts them under Champions league news and other events. I got the departure times from the Live flight schedule on the airports website itself as SWAG put them down for when the aircraft roughly arrive at CWL. Guessing info for spotters. The arrival at FCO times I've estimated myself.

But what about the flights that carry teams/backroom staff/possibly some supporters each week re the rugby and football club games that I mentioned?

Is it really Ryanair doing a charter NWI-CWL-NWI?

The one thing about CWL's flight information is that is gives generally a week in advance. So it's possible to estimate what the flight may be for.

It looks like. They do have a 60 seater 737 800 that they adapted for corporate travel and charter work. So it's either the team or some rich fans as I can't see Ryanair using a normal configuration for a sports charter.

Norwich City are certainly playing a Championship league match at Cardiff City next Saturday.

Yes they are and Swansea City are playing Manchester City. There's a BMI departure for Manchester at 16.00 on the 4/2/17 BM8999 but I can't find the arrival flight.

Are you going to Rome this weekend, Jerry?

Rome itself is a great attraction (although I've never been there) and coupled with the high probability of a Wales win make the trip something that Wales rugby supporters must find hard to resist.

Unfortunately no! I have been to Rome but not for the rugby it was part of a tour with a cruise and it's a wonderful city especially the historical side and i would recommend it to anyone. I do want to go for the rugby one day though as i've never been to a Six nations away game and would like to one day.

The flight to Leeds must have relaxed the Bluebirds judging by the result.

Were there many private jets at CWL for the Six Nations today? I won't mention the score.

I'm still cursing Jonathan Davies for that kick! there's always next year!
Think there was a couple of private aircraft but I'm not sure if they were rugby related or not. Most would've come by road or rail. I'm not sure if the LCY service benefited from the game. Though according to SWAG it got diverted to SEN again! Guessing icing issues on the wing tips again.

I know there will be lots of Ryanair and Aer Lingus flights but also CityJet are doing some this year.
