Ray perfect summary...

It's definitely not doom and gloom give BHX 12 months to fill the gaps......
I totally agree.
BHX have taken some knocks over the past few months (and my thoughts are still with the former Monarch employees), but several airlines have jumped in to fill many of the gaps. So, rather than 'it's been tried and doesn't work' it appears that airlines are thinking more 'OK, that's left a gap - our analysis indicates that we can make it work'. That's much better than 'airline X couldn't make it work so we won't try'.

Be positive and support BHX when booking your flights (y)

Is this the Donald Rumsfeld Appreciation Society?

Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me because, as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don't know we don't know.

Sorry to drive the thread towards a tangent.

I still think BHX have a few things up their sleeves for 2018, I am hoping it turns out to be ok bearing in mind the loss of Monarch. I think we maybe slightly down on 2017 but bounce back to new highs in 2019.

I agree User. The loss of Monarch and recent announcements it is easy to get disheartened. A consolidation in 2018 although still up but c5% than 15%. One new base would be good...Blue Air maybe...and a good start for Primera plus full loads for Thompsons long haul so both have the confidence to grow in 2019 and possibly attract a bit of competition.

But a bit more retrenchment from Flybe as they restructure to provide long term sustainable growth. We May still lose some routes, but overseas airlines would have completed their licence applications for the post Brexit world and it will give us an idea of who is and is not serious about the UK. I expect some to continue to only focus on core markets such as Norwegian and Veuling and not return to BHX.

Despite Brexit eastern Europe still has scope but more as a growing tourist attraction for the British emboldened by infrastrucure investment and the desire to explore new places that are cheaper given the weak pound. Tourists will flock into the UK also but look to the cheaper than London alternatives. Given the attractions in and around Birmingham I can see a major boom. We will also have the Commonwealth Games factor which although a few years off will raise the brand and awareness.

So I am hopeful. A few surprising surprises aswell would be nice.

What happened to the Far East rumour that people were saying good for the spotters but not the airport in the long term ?? I take it that one didnt happen ?

We have all been here before, 'Deja Vu' (good album)?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
