Yet again, many thanks for the update. I have no doubt that the TOM planners know. Maybe their Twitter person doesn't.

Posts on other forums suggest 49 weekly rotations in summer 2015 but it's not clear how many will be on TOM aircraft or indeed using TCX for some seats.

If around 49 is correct and the the overwhelming majority are on TOM aircraft (if they are) I wonder if we are looking towards three based units, perhaps a part-based berth for a third aircraft.

No TOM long haul from Severnside at all next summer - BRS not reinstated nor have the services been moved to CWL.

It looks as though Thomson expects South West and South Wales customers to use LGW or BHX again next year. I believe that Cancun has been increased from BHX next year.

Maybe this is the future at least in the short to medium term. I'm still not sure whether it's an operational decision or a commercial one to dump the BRS flights.

With the routes kind of sorted with a few tweeks here and there, is it still 2x757 and perhaps a 738 based, has anything been said to confirm what aircraft types yet, or is it early to say yet. There was talk of it going to a 738 base back along.

Nothing's been said about base size next summer so far as I know.

In 12 months' time the programme will probably have been revised as it usually is and it may become clearer in due course how many 'home' based aircraft are required (unless an announcement is made in the meantime).

I suppose a significant increase in advertised flights by Thomson could be catered for by using more aircraft on Ws from other bases, using other airlines as they do with Mistral to Verona, and by taking more seats on airlines like Thomas Cook and easyJet.

Santorini on sale from May 26 th 2015 every Tuesday !!

Out at 0600 and returning at 1500 according to the Thomson website, so it looks like a based aircraft scheduled for the route at the present time.

I think the last time Santorini operated into BRS was the summer of 2005 by Aegean Airlines with a Boeing 737-400. It was a joint flight with BHX that year.

It was also the first summer of the Continental service to Newark and Santorini operated on Tuesdays then I seem to recall.

I was at the western end of the airport around eleven o'clock one summer Tuesday morning that year when the Aegean B 734 landed on 09 immediately in front of a late running CO B 757. To the amazement and amusement of the regular watchers the Aegean skipped off the end of the runway onto the eastern apron and made straight for stand 2 where it stopped at what its flight crew thought was its parking place

For those unfamiliar with the workings of BRS then stand 2 was the exclusive preserve of the CO when it was around. The Aegean captain must have misunderstood his parking instructions.

With the CO by now waiting impatiently at the edge of the apron a tug was quickly found that pushed the Aegean and its passengers off stand 2 from where it was banished to the outer extremities of the western apron, with no western walkway in those days.

It was just like a youngster visiting an uncle and sitting in the uncle's favourite chair and being smartly removed by his aunt with a clip around the ear.

Anyway, Santorini will be a welcome addition to the BRS programme next summer.

[textarea]More choice, more variety and local routes for sun seekers from the West Country

Thomson and First Choice increase capacity from Bristol Airport and introduce four new routes.

Thomson and First Choice are pleased to announce that in summer 2015 they will be increasing capacity at Bristol Airport through the introduction of four new routes to Santorini, Greece; Pula, Croatia; Marrakech, Morocco; and Dubrovnik, Croatia. The plans also include the addition of further weekly flights for existing routes Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt and Heraklion, Greece bringing the total destinations on offer from Bristol Airport to 25.

The move to introduce these routes is part of the UK’s largest tour operator’s strategy to ensure customers across the UK can fly from their local airport and stay at the best hotels in some of the most exciting destinations. The new routes went on sale on the 24th April.

Not only will customers from the West Country now be able to fly to some fantastic destinations, but they will also have the opportunity to choose varying durations - not just the standard seven and 14 night stays.

Local sun seekers will also be able to join Thomson Cruises’ brand new itineraries from Dubrovnik with the introduction of the new flights to Croatia. They will have the opportunity to sail on Thomson Celebration on itineraries such as Grecian Legends and Croatian Classics as well as taking advantage of the extensive cruise and stay programme on offer.

Customers travelling from Bristol will now also have access to some of Thomson and First Choice’s most popular flagship hotels. These include Thomson Couples Kalamota Island Resort on the private island of Kolocep close to Dubrovnik, which is new to the Thomson programme this summer.

Karen Switzer, Director of Aviation Planning for Thomson and First Choice, said of the move:

“Adding additional capacity from Bristol and the introduction of four brand new routes demonstrates our commitment to Bristol Airport and the local area, and following the success of similar routes across a number of regional airports, we know that the demand is there.

“Expanding access to our portfolio of destinations and hotels is a key part of our overall strategy and we hope that this move will enhance the holiday experience for our customers.”

Shaun Browne, Aviation Director at Bristol Airport, said:“We are delighted with Thomson’s announcement of new flights for summer 2015 from Bristol Airport. The introduction of four new routes to Pula, Santorini, Dubrovnik and Marrakech are very welcome and provides exciting new destinations for passengers in the region to visit. Dubrovnik also adds a fly-cruise option, while additional flights to Sharm el Sheikh and Heraklion offer a wider choice with more flexible stay lengths for passengers across the South West and Wales.

“The increase in destinations is also great news for travel agents across the region, who regularly tell us that their customers want to fly from Bristol Airport.”[/textarea]

The above press release appears on the airport's website from today.

The four new routes have been flown from BRS in the past and, indeed, easyJet currently flies to Marrakech 2 x weekly year-round, having commenced this route last December, and Ryanair operated it from 2009 until 2011.

Pula was operated by Thomson until 2011 but was not brought back after that summer.

Santorini has featured as a summer charter route in the past, the last year being 2005 so far as I can establish.

Dubrovnik was a summer staple at many regional airports, including BRS, until the Balkans conflicts through the 1990s.

Not a good weekend for BRS passengers what with the Thomas Cook problems and now this.

Over 130 passengers were delayed 17 hours at Burgas, Bulgaria waiting for their flight to Bristol.

They appear to have been well looked after but as is so often the case in the aviation industry communication with the passengers left much to be desired with the aircraft delay gradually assuming greater and greater proportions.

If the Thomson people didn't know how long the delay would be why not be up front with it instead of saying three hours, then four, then six then more until it reached 17 hours?

I've experienced this sort of thing and know how frustrating, annoying and unnecessary it is. If it's likely to be a long delay then tell the passengers but don't patronise by giving the increasingly bad news in small chunks.

Interesting comment from a regular poster on another forum, who I believe is an airline captain but not with Thomson, who suggested that he always found the best thing to do was tell passengers the truth but that some airlines were increasingly wary of committing themselves too much in view of EU compensation regulations.

I see on fr24 this morning the aircraft doing the brs/tfs rotation diverted into lisbon. the aircraft was g byaw. it decende very quicly so thoughts are a pressureisation fault. Dont know any more or if its on route or how late it will be into brs, or a replacement aircraft sent to carry on.Estimated at 2 hours late on return to brs.

A poster on another forum mentions a medical emergency.

New route for summer 2015 - Thessaloniki replacing Marrakech . Any ideas who will be operating the third possible aircraft or will it be a thomson aircraft.

Not surprised about Marrakech - with easyJet operating 2 x weekly year-round that's probably sufficient capacity. Good to see Thessaloniki back. It was a regular with Thomson/then TUI for many years until it was axed a few years ago.

I'm surprised that TUI haven't brought back Salzburg for the summer. They still operate in winter for ski flights, as do easyJet, but the summer service was axed a few years ago after running for over 20 years, on both Wednesdays and Saturdays for many years until reducing to Saturdays only. All BRS has now in summer to Austria is an Austrian F 70 operating to Innsbruck for Inghams each Saturday.

There seems to be a body of opinion that the additional Thomson rotations next summer will be operated on 'W's or by other airlines rather than basing a third aircraft.

This summer non-based TOM/TUI flights are operated to Ibiza on Thursdays with an LBA-based B 738, to Naples on Fridays with an EMA-based B 738 (I think it's EMA-based) and to Enfidha on Sundays with a LTN-based B 757. In addition the Saturday Verona is operated by a Mistral B 734 (sometimes subbed by a Go2Sky B 734).

Thomson Summer 2014

The two based B 757s operate 30 weekly rotations the same as last summer. However, there are four weekly rotations by non-based aircraft which is one more than summer 2013. On the debit side the weekly B 767-operated Cancun and Sanford flights have been discontinued this summer.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
