[textarea]Virgin to resume Heathrow – Chicago flights

Virgin Atlantic has announced it will recommence flights on its Heathrow to Chicago direct service next month. The route will operate four times a week from May 9 using an airbus A340-300, which will be extended to a daily service on May 22.

The route is also expected to run for Virgin’s winter schedule and coincides with Virgin Holidays new itineraries to the Great Lakes of North America.

[textarea]Virgin debut Airbus A330 at Gatwick

Virgin Atlantic will launch an Airbus A330 aircraft from Gatwick this weekend, the first time the airline has operated this aircraft type from its Gatwick base. Holidaymakers will take to the skies on the plane tomorrow (May 1) on its route to Orlando, Florida.

The A330 is a long range twin engine aircraft and is the most efficient aircraft in its class today. It will use 15% less fuel per seat than the airline’s A340-300 aircraft, helping deliver Virgin’s commitment to flying a lower carbon fleet, as well as significant cost savings given current sky high fuel costs.

It is the second A330 aircraft to join the fleet and is part of a $2.2bn order of 10 new A330s that will be delivered over the next two years, allowing the airline to take more passengers to key markets including US East Coast, East and West Africa, the Middle East and India. The first A330 launched on April 2 from Manchester to Orlando.

The new planes feature a revolutionary new in-flight entertainment system by Panasonic. The new cutting edge system uses the latest touch screen technology that allows passengers to scroll and swipe through over 300 hours of content.

The economy seat installed on the A330 aircraft is also a new design. The new seat features an articulated seat-pan which moves in-line with the backrest when in the reclined position leading to increase passenger comfort, as well as a backrest with a high pivot that provides extra room at the knee area when in the recline position.

Later this year Virgin Atlantic passengers flying on the A330 will be able to send and receive emails and texts on their Blackberries, handheld PDAs and other mobile devices.

Cancun will be dropped from January 2019.

Quite a big surprise as people using the service have reported the 747s are regularly full.

Thats a surprise! Cancun is pretty popular from most places it's flown from! I wonder if it's more down to lack of aircraft rather than lack of profit?

Havana will also be shifted to Heathrow with Antigua i believe going up to 4 weekly.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
