Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

I was watching the news earlier. The reporter said it was make or break for the unions in France this time.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Thursday 28 October 2010

This is the third Thursday in a row that easyJet and Ryanair have cancelled rotations from Bristol because of French industrial action.

easyJet Toulouse, Bordeaux and Paris Cdg

Ryanair Limoges, Bergerac and Girona

Toulouse, Paris Cdg, Limoges and Bergerac have been cancelled on the past three Thursdays.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Saturday 4 December 2010

15 cancellations so far today from BRS due mainly to Spanish air traffic controllers all 'going sick' and weather.

easyJet Malaga, Alicante, Barcelona, Madrid, Palma, Faro and Funchal

Ryanair Malaga, Alicante, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Faro and Marrakesh

Air France Paris Cdg

KLM Cityhopper Amsterdam (two other rotations still operating)

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

If it's not the French striking it's the bloody Spanish. The norm is every year but this seems to have escalated to become a bi-annual event.

What was the reason for the Air France cancellations?

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

I don't know, nor why the KLM was cancelled.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Monday 6 December 2010

Must have been thick fog at BRS this morning as five non-Cat 3 equipped aircraft diverted - the larger jets (easyJet etc) landed.

Eastern from Aberdeen to Exeter
ASW from Leeds-Bradford to Exeter
ASW from Manchester direct to Plymouth
Brussels Airlines from Brussels to Birmingham
OLT from Bremen to Bournemouth.

Quite a choice of diversionary airports for BRS and the nearest, Cardiff, was not apparently used.

I'm currently enjoying a week in the wilds of Dartmoor where it's a glorious sunny but frosty and cold day. Surrounding lanes untreated and treacherous for driving.

Was up on the moor this morning and saw a Dash 8-300 inbound to PLH - probably the MAN that bypassed BRS.

Addendum

One more diversion today - the early evening Eastern from Aberdeen and Leeds-Bradford went to Southampton, yet another diversionary airport for Bristol. It seems Cardiff was seriously affected by fog today as well, hence no diversions to CWL.

In addition the following rotations were cancelled mainly because of adverse weather conditions at the destination airport:

easyJet - Edinburgh (x 4), Glasgow (x 2), Belfast International (x 2)
Air France - Paris Cdg (one rotation)
Brussels Airlines - Brussels (x 2)

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Nice update LocalYokel, glad to hear you're enjoying your trip to Dartmoor.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Thanks Aviador. Still fairly clear but very cold down here on the moors. Very different to Bristol again it would seem with freezing fog there leading to yet more diversions apparently because the Cat 3B was not usable by the smaller aircraft. Also some weather cancellations due to probs at destination it would seem.

These are the cancellations and diversions I have picked up from the website for today

Tuesday 7 December 2010

but may not be a complete list

One Brussels Airlines from Brussels diverted to Birmingham
One Air France from Paris Cdg diverted to Birmingham
Aer Arann/Aer Lingus from Cork diverted to Birmingham
One Flybe from Belfast City diverted to Exeter
Flybe from Jersey diverted to Exeter
Aurigny from Guernsey diverted to East Midlands

easyJet - 2 Glasgows cancelled
KLM - 2 Amsterdams cancelled
Brussels Airlines - 1 Brussels cancelled
Air France - 1 Paris Cdg cancelled
Eastern - 1 or 2 Aberdeens cancelled (board slightly confusing on this)

Although BRS avoided the worst of the snow during this extended deep freeze the fog and closures elsewhere have led to dozens of flights diverting or being cancelled over the past two weeks.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Like you say, Bristol has avoided many of the problems other airports have faced during that last couple of weeks. It should silence those critics who complain the airport is perched on a mist shrouded hilltop for a while.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Wednesday 8 December 2010

Four cancellations today.

easyJet - Inverness

Air France - all three rotations to Cdg

Don't know why - easyJet flew to Cdg today.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

I think Paris may have had snow as well although fog has been widespread on the continent too.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Heavy snow shut down Paris' main airport for several hours

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

EZY7025 LPL to JER on stand 10 at the moment arrived at 17.57, STD 18.20.

G-EZGA A319, just leaving now!

Anyone got any reason as to why landed in BRS?

Just looked at Jersey Airport arrivals, showing flight Diverted. No weather delays that I can see, so I would imagine either Tech or Medical diversion.

Re: Snow Set To Cause Disruption

It's looks like the MET Office have issued a snow warning for Saturday at BRS. The snow what was originally forecast for much of England and Wales now looks like it isn't going to reach as far North as previously expected. Places like the South West look like they will still get heavy snow falls.

The forecast is changing by the hour.

On both Wednesday and Thursday evenings the BBC West weather forecaster told us to expect heavy snow overnight Fri/Sat and well into Saturday.

This morning we were told they are no longer certain what will happen. He said the Met Office has several 'super computers' but each one is coming up with a different scenario at the moment.

One possibility is that the worst of the snow will be further to the south (EXT has been shut this morning) meaning the Bristol area might get off more lightly than originally forecast. At least they are honest enough to say they don't really know.

There was a snow covering to the south of Bristol this morning that apparently became more intrusive the further south and west you went, hence EXT closed.

Bristol itself had a smattering of snow which has now gone in my area thanks to sunshine despite the low temperatures. BRS is only about seven miles from where I live but I understand the snow was heavier there though I don't believe the airport had to close.

Fingers crossed we don't get much snow. I hate the stuff. it just disrupts everyday life.

Traditionally the city of Bristol usually escapes the worst of any snow - many put it down to its favourable position vis-a-vis the Gulf Stream. It's a good job because Bristol is very hilly in all parts.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Friday 17 December 2010

Eleven rotations cancelled so far today - presumably all weather (heavy snow) related at destination.

easyJet Belfast International (3 rotations) and Amsterdam

KLM Cityhopper Amsterdam (3 rotations) - seems AMS is taking only a limited number of flights today

Flybe Belfast City (2 rotations)

Air Southwest Plymouth and Leeds-Bradford (aircraft did not leave PLH so didn't reach LBA to operate back from there)

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Yes delays and cancellations all round. Amsterdam has had the dreaded white stuff today as well.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

It seems as though the weathermen got it right for a change. BRS is snow closed at the moment for snow clearing.

Saturday 18 December 2010

It seems as though the weathermen got it right for a change. BRS is snow closed at the moment for snow clearing.

Up to a point but we didn't get the amount we were 'promised' up until two days ago.

The city of Bristol itself got away pretty lightly with between 1 and 3 inches of snow. The sun has been out for a couple of hours now and all buses are running in the city.

Further south snow accumulations were heavier and no buses were running in Bath, Weston, Wells, Bridgwater or Taunton this morning.

BRS is to the south of the city and on high ground (600 feet elevation) and probably had more snow than the city. However, the airport was closed for a brief period only and is now operating (according to local radio it re-opened around 0800).

There are cancellations though, mainly easyJet, with the list of rotations not operating so far as follows:

easyJet Grenoble (1 of 2 rotations today), Lyon, Salzburg, Geneva (1 of 4 rotations today) (ironic that these are primarily ski destinations), Belfast International, Alicante (2 of 2 rotations today), Rome, Madrid, Krakow, Prague and Newcastle (1 of 2 rotations today) Total 12

Air France Paris Cdg Total 1

KLM Cityhopper Amsterdam (1 of 3 rotations today) Total 1

List of cancellations amended 2000 18.12.10

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
