It's annoying because it'll leave a dent in the passenger figures for the month! :nea:

Yes, but it shouldn't be too bad - about 2,000 passengers I would guess. Last April 490,000 passengers were handled so 2K isn't too big a dent.

For most airports it's "swings and roundabouts", over a year diversions will even themselves out.

According to the BBC Ceefax BRS arrivals page BA 761 from Oslo was diverted to Bristol around 0915 today.

The Ceefax LHR T5 arrivals showed 'diverted', and the LHR web arrivals page had a note - contact the airline.

A quick check showed this is normally an A319 service.

Strange it should divert to BRS when everything else appeared to land at LHR around the time this flight was expected.

I do know Virgin Atlantic's B747 G-VBIG from New York diverted into MAN in-stead of LHR as well so could be a Heathrow based problem.

I don't know how relevant this could be to the Hot Air Balloon suspending all departures from Gatwick this morning...?! :whiteflag:

First BA divert for about 5 years.

Nice to have a flight from Scandinavia - would be nice to have regular flights to at least one city !?

Hmmm! It would indeed. Well BA have been in talks with a number of regional airports of late. Could be something to do with the takeover of BMI so maybe they have plans!?

Oops! Wrong thread.

I wondered whether there was a message in there somewhere, conns.

Today we know the answer. Very good news indeed!

Sunday 29 April 2012

Very strong and gusting crosswinds have caused major problems at CWL overnight and this morning causing some flights to be diverted to BRS from there.

TCX 7849 (A 320) due 0420 from Dalaman diverted to BRS, with 0600 outbound TCX 7268 operating to Enfidha from BRS*

* would have been quite a Tunisia gathering early this morning with BRS's own TCX to Enfidha due out 0615 and the TOM to Enfidha five minutes before that

EI 3292 (ATR 72) due 1120 from Dublin diverted to BRS

OAW 442 (F 100) due 1310 from Zurich/Bristol operated the return from BRS with CWL pax taken by bus from/to BRS

Historically, there have been more occasions when CWL has taken diversions from BRS rather than the other way round. However, the past few months the position has seen a number of weather-related diversions from CWL to BRS, partly because of BRS's Cat 3b ILS though that would not have played a part with the wind and the non-Cat 3 runway 09 at BRS has been the operational runway this weekend anyway.

BRS and the city region have seen continual rain (heavy at times) and very strong to near gale north-easterly winds overnight and throughout the day so far (some roads blocked by fallen trees in the region) but, fortunately, the airport has remained open for arrivals/departures.

Looks like TOM A321 G-OOPH positioned back to LGW early this morn as did EZY A319 G-EZGJ. Looks as if these were the only two to BRS

The weather looked shocking down in the South West this afternoon. Did everything get in alright with the high winds?

The gales and strong rain were a feature from mid afternoon yesterday, all through the night and all morning today. The rain is forecast to ease this afternoon and the gales this evening.

I looked at the BRS arrivals board around 22.30 last night and the only diversion was at teatime when the Aer Lingus Regional ATR 72 from Shannon went into Cardiff, presumably because of the weather. Quite why this was so I don't know because the Aer Lingus Regional from Cork (also an ATR 72) landed around that time as did the other turbo-props later.

There were still over a dozen arrivals due after I looked last night but the apparent non-disruption to departures this morning suggests there were no diversions last night or in the early hours of today.

A check with the arrivals board shows no diversions this morning.

Addendum

Forgot to add that the Scilly Skybus (DH 6 'Twin Otter') was cancelled yesterday and today - probably due as much to the weather in the far south west as around BRS.

Thank you for that TLY

Today's EZ6026 from BCN was diverted into Paris-CDG due to a 'minor technical fault'. Something about Airbus procedures requiring them to land on a runway significantly longer than Bristol's. There was a (single) fireman in full outfit walking about outside. Another plane was flown in from Milan, and people arrived in Bristol around 19.45h. Out of curiosity: anyone know what the problem was with G-EZEF ?

It's been very murky, misty with low cloud this week. The wind, which was light for the most part, was out of the east/south-east mainly which meant the westerly (27) equipped Cat 3b ILS could not be brought into play a lot of the time though I believe some downwind action did occur at times - the reciprocal 09 is not Cat 3 equipped because of the surrounding topography.

On Monday 8 October easyJets from Belfast International, Palma, Nice, Murcia and Alicante diverted into CWL, mainly at lunchtime, with a Ryanair from Alicante going into BHX at the same time. A Thomas Cook A321 from Corfu also went into CWL that day.

This morning (Thursday 11 October) both the early mornings Dublins (one Ryanair, the other Aer Lingus Regional) diverted respectively into BHX and CWL.

Given the weather and wind direction the airport suffered relatively lightly.

Monday 22 October 2012

More mist, murk, drizzle and low cloud all day - similar forecast for next two days.

So far today there have been three diversions:

Morning Eastern from ABZ/LBA and teatime Aer Lingus Regional from Cork both went to CWL.

Teatime Ryanair from Malta went to BHX.

The following were cancelled:

Blue Islands (x 2) and Flybe all from Jersey.
Aurigny from Guernsey.
Scilly Skybus from Scilly Isles.
Teatime Aer Lingus Regional from Dublin.

Widespread fog no doubt the cause with the Channel Islands severely affected all day.

I had expected many more inbound diversions today given the fog and mist that didn't lift at all. Very little wind so I presume runway 27 with Cat 3b ILS was used even though the forecast would have suggested a slight downwind component.

A tailwind of greater than around 10 knots would explain the FR diversion to BHX.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
