Bet they can't wait to get those 787's on-line

Thanks for the information about the delayed TOM, big g.

It's a pity that the airport won't be seeing the 787 - for the time being anyway it seems.

Aurigny GR 644/645 from/to Guernsey at lunchtime cancelled today.

A check with GCI arrivals board shows that passengers have been switched to two GR flights from Gatwick, one arriving at GCI at teatime and the other during the evening.

A morning GR GCI flight to/from MAN also cancelled with passengers switched to either an East Mids/GCI GR flight or on to a later MAN/GCI GR flight

A reasonable assumption would suggest that the same aircraft was due to operate both the morning MAN and BRS routes but became unavailable for some reason.

The French ATC industrial action seems to have led to the following cancellations:

easyJet Barcelona, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Paris Cdg, Faro and teatime Glasgow (6)

Ryanair Girona, Bergerac and Palma (3)

Air France Paris Cdg (1)

The morning bmi regional HAM and lunchtime HAJ also both cancelled, possibly not connected with the industrial action.

Wednesday 12 June 2013

The second day of the French ATC industrial action has seen the following rotations cancelled:

easyJet Nice, Barcelona, Toulouse, Paris Cdg, Madrid and Palma (6)

Ryanair Beziers, Girona, Ibiza, Malaga and Palma (5)

Air France Paris Cdg (1)

So in the two days of the industrial easyJet cancelled 12 rotations, Ryanair eight and Air France two.

That's over 7,000 seats.

Interesting when compared with Leeds-Bradford Airport where the very large Jet2 contingent apparently led to no cancellations from that airline there yesterday and none announced by lunchtime today, albeit some long delays at times.

Yes it's something Jet2 can be really proud of. They really seem to go all out to ensure every service operates albeit with a hefty delay. I have witnessed so many Ryanair passengers commenting on how Jet2 manage to operate their flights while Ryanair just cancel at the first opportunity.

I wonder why some airlines manage to cope much better than others.

Are they better organised, have a higher regard for their passengers or have a different culture generally? Or perhaps it's a combination of these things.

Ryanair gets a lot of stick when this sort of thing happens but in my experience easyJet is just as bad, if anything worse on occasions. I write as someone who is not the biggest Ryanair fan either.

In the past I have witnessed the Jet2 top man hold aircraft to allow late passengers. It's something that has helped the airline gain huge respect from it's northern based passengers.

Thursday 20/Friday 21 June 2013

I noticed that the evening inbound bmi regional from Frankfurt was cancelled on Thursday, although the earlier outbound was shown as operating.

This morning's outbound to FRA was cancelled but the mid-morning inbound operated, albeit it arrived at BRS about 90 minutes late.

I presume something happened to detain the aircraft overnight at FRA.

Its no secret that some airlines cancel flights if there are not enough passengers travelling. its cheaper to put them up in hotels/put them on a later flight.

BA did this constantly from Paris to Bristol during thed ays when they had 2 inbound flights. We knew what the load was for the morning flight. If it was less than 10 then the passengers were sold some bullshit about technical faults and put on the evening flight. Few food vouchers was cheaper than all the fuel. . Happened so many times that we were sure of our theory.

I've spoken to one or two people who have used the bmi regional service who were very complimentary.

There are eight trip reports on Skytrax, all of which are extremely positive - not all the flights featured were from or to Bristol.

I'm not arguing with kraktoa about what airlines may have done in the past or, in some cases, might still do - I simply don't know - but I would hope and expect that bmi regional would not want to gain that sort of reputation whilst they are building their business as an independent company, especially as they seem to have been so well received by passengers.

I was only a stating a theory we had in the mid 2000s. We could see the number of booked pax on a BA CDG to BRS flight. If it was less than 10, the flight was invariably cancelled. The pax were all put on the later afternoon flight or if someone made a big fuss was transferred onto a LHR/GAT flight and taxi fare paid to the southwest (as a business man one day told me). makes sense and saves money but downright lies.

It's certainly something I've heard people allege about some airlines - only this week someone is saying this about Flybe on its Birmingham-Stuttgart service on the Skytrax trip report website - but I've never been in a position to make a definitive judgement.

I've had this theory about AF BRS->CDG for a while, the ~6am flights seemed to have a lot of tech problems, esp. in December, sometimes multiple days in a row. At least AF are usually kind enough to notify me the evening before that there will be a "tech problem" in the morning ;)

Friday 19 July 2013

I note that the Flybe Jersey had been cancelled today - in and outbound.

Can't be a question of a poor load surely on a Friday afternoon towards the end of July when the schools are about to break up.

There is an increasing number of complaints on Skytrax about Flybe cancelling flights (none from BRS though that I'm aware of) with the suspicion that it's being done for commercial reasons on lightly-loaded flights.

Unless and until airlines are scrupulously honest and straightforward with their explanations when flights are cancelled this sort of belief will be difficult to counter.

flybe at sou are having problems with dash 8 crew shortage. so either they run another aircraft type they have or they cancel. might be why brs cancelled today. just my thoughts on it.

Thursday 10 October 2013

Only one rotation cancelled today because of the French ATC industrial action - the Ryanair to/from Girona.

Flybe from/to Isle of Man also cancelled but unlikely to be the result of the industrial action unless the aircraft became extremely delayed on a previous flight.

Friday 18 October 2013 - cancellations

easyJet to/from Rome and bmi regional to/from Milan Malpensa cancelled today because of general strike in Italy.

bmi regional will operate a flight to/from MXP tomorrow for those who couldn't travel today and want to tomorrow.

Aer Lingus Regional also cancelled the teatime Dublin rotation for some reason.

I thought you were going to say the weather was causing problems today at our sister airport. (LBA and BRS sat on top of a hill syndrome)

sat on top pf a hill. well they both aint doing to bad for that. keep up the good work at both hill tops.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
