[textarea]French strike misery for 2500 East Midlands Airport passengers

Sixteen departures and arrivals at East Midlands Airport were cancelled yesterday, with more set to be axed today, as a result of industrial action by air traffic controllers in France. About 2,500 passengers were affected after Ryanair cancelled a number of services.

The strike in France is due to finish early today, and Ryanair said all services would be back to normal soon after. Passengers have been advised to check with the airline if they have any queries.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

The weather for the Midlands isn't looking good this evening. Both BHX and EMA are looking sketchy later on.

I don't understand how the East Midlands Jet2 flights have been effected unless the aircraft have either been utilised else where or the aircraft were operating on a W leg pattern from Scotland or Newcastle?

500m in fog with visibility set to decrease to 300m.

The fog/mist has been circulating Loughborough since Saturday evening/Sunday morning...

This morning it looks as if it has lifted!

Looks like ryanair are having problems with there Boeing 737-800's down at EMA this afternoon as 4x flights have had to divert to Birmingham due to the cross wind exceeding limits.

15:35 = FR3702 - From Fuerteventura
15:55 = FR1743 - From Knock Ireland West
17:05 = FR1767 - From Faro
17:35 = FR536 - From Dublin

According to the METAR the wind is only 17 kt from southwest with light rain so there must be some other problem?

The wind was around 17 knots at the time aircraft were diverting LBAspotter. The wind could have gusted to 100mph earlier but that doesn't fully explain why aircraft were diverting this evening after the wind had died down considerably.

Some interesting photo's from EMA :shok:

Amazing pictures Ray Finkle. I'd have loved to have seen that, I've always been interested in twisters. I witnessed them once not far from my own home near Pudsey in Leeds. There were two at the same time about half a mile or so apart. An amazing sight. The same day news reports said a tornado had torn up trees and caused havoc near Roundhay Park in Leeds. What most people don't realise is the UK sees more tornado's than anywhere else on the planet, they're just not as large here.

I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
