That's disappointing news. The gap between the number of flights in the summer verses the winter season seems to widen every year at UK regional airports.
The main reason for this at BRS is that airlines, especially easyJet, used to reduce their winter schedules by not a great deal from the summer ones. In the past six years or so the winter schedule has reduced noticeably.
Looking at the 12 months comprising last winter and last summer (ie November 2012 to October 2013) the passenger figures illustrate the situation.
From November 2012 to March 2013 (the winter period) the airport handled 1,782,663 passengers in those five months, an average of 356,533 per month.
From April 2013 to October 2013 (the summer period) the airport handled 4,317,720 passengers in those seven months, an average of 616,817 per month.
The 12 months under review saw 6,100,383 passengers, an average of 508,365 per month.
January was the quietest month with just under 313,000 and August the busiest with just under 708,000.

This is going away from the charter thread except that charter flights have seen an enormous decrease over the past decade as the low cost airlines have taken over much of their traditional market.
