Does anyone know the purpose of a Jet 2 B733 departure to KRN which is Kiruna Airport in Sweden this afternoon (Mayfly)?

Bell ringers, netball team, Nempnett Thrubwell Associaton of Grannies jolly?

G-CELK did the Chambery run this morning from LGW, then left for BRS as EXS2133 arriving at 12:49. It then left for Kiruna, Sweden (which Jet2 flys charters to during the winter from LGW, MAN & LBA according to its Wiki page) at 14:04 also as EXS2133. After an hour turnaround in KRN it is due to head back to LGW as EXS2134 before positioning to SEN later this eve.
Not sure that really answers your question of the purpose of the flight, but a little for info anyway!!

Many thanks James and conns.

Summer 2013

Having written recently in the Bristol Airport Nostalgia thread about the many charter airlines that used to serve BRS, there will be a new airline to the airport visiting this summer.

When I say new I mean so far as I can recall it's never previously operated a regular charter service into the airport, though may have appeared on ad hoc charters, possibly rugby-related.

The Italian carrier Mistral Air will operate a Boeing 737-300 on the Verona service for Tui on Saturdays arriving at 0950 and departing at 1030.

Last year and in the recent past the service was operated by TOM for its partner tour companies within the group, with a non-BRS based Boeing 737-800 doing the honours last summer.

Inghams used to take an allocation of seats but this year will be using a separate service (possibly because of the fewer seats on the 300 series compared to the 800) operated by bmi regional (I'm not sure if with an ER 3 or an ER 4) departing BRS at 1405 and returning at 1920.

Incidentally, a glance at all summer 2013 flights (scheduled and charter) shows the new bmi regional routes to Hannover and Munich under the charter heading with the other new ones, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Milan Malpensa as scheduled services. This must be a mistake as the HAJ and MUC must surely also be scheduled routes.

The first Mistral Air rotation operated today from/to Verona and according to Mayfly was due to be a B 737-400.

you were right in saying todays mistral flight was indeed a 737 400. it was an irish reg plane. sorry lost reg no. must be my age in loosing things. hope thyat helps you.

On Sunday 26th May, according to the mayfly there is a Jetairfly JAF7925 from Palma (PMI) arr: 18.35, dep: 19.30 for PMI as JAF7926 operated by a B737-800.
Is this a regular charter for the summer season? And I am guessing it would be for Thomson Holidays unless anyone knows different.

Around last Christmas I was told by someone who knows about these things at BRS that a couple more weekly Thomson/Tui summer rotations had not at that time been published. One was Mistral Air to Verona and the other a JetAirFly flight to Palma on Sundays.

I'd completely forgotten about the JetAirFly.

Correct it will be operating on a weekly basis for TOM.

"Following the success of Corsican Places’ first year from Bristol, the tour operator is pleased to reintroduce its charter with bmi regional for 2014, starting earlier to provide a longer season for Bristol flyers. Sunday flights are offered from 25th May through to September with convenient 11 am departure times arriving into Bastia Airport in North East Corsica and providing easy access to some of the most beautiful regions of the island which include St Florent, Cap Corse and La Balagne."

Good to see them return for summer 2014!

Bastia

Good news for bmi regional and BRS that Corsican Places is to carry on with the route next summer.

Bastia was operated as a charter route in the mid 'noughties' by SN Brussels ARJs on behalf of a tour operator (may have been Corsican Places or its parent) until easyJet tried the route in 2009 and 2010.

Heads up on some interesting charter series for Summer 2014 including 1) Estonian Airway E170 D6 t/f VRN , 2) Syphax A320 D6 t/f NBE , 3) Nouvelair A320 D3 t/f NBE , 4) Sunwing B737-800 on behalf of TUi D4 t/f IBZ . bmi regional operating D6 t/f BIA plus taking over Agusta charter t/f MXp D5. TUi operating several additional w patterns including D7 NBE and D5 CFU. TCX will base 2 new A321's from May 1st as well.

Hello conns - good to read you on here again and Compliments of the Season.

Will the Estonian Airways be a third Verona flight on Saturdays? Currently Thomson is showing a Mistral B 737 and Inghams a bmi regional E145 for summer 2014, as in summer 2013.

NBE will be very well served if the Nouvelaair and Syphax flights are in addition to summer 2013's offering.

The Estonian E170 will operate BHX-VRN-BRS and vv on behalf of Inghams . Was going to be Flybe E170 again from BHX. Replaces bmi regional as additional seats needed.

That's disappointing news. The gap between the number of flights in the summer verses the winter season seems to widen every year at UK regional airports.

Thanks for clarification, conns.

That's disappointing news. The gap between the number of flights in the summer verses the winter season seems to widen every year at UK regional airports.

The main reason for this at BRS is that airlines, especially easyJet, used to reduce their winter schedules by not a great deal from the summer ones. In the past six years or so the winter schedule has reduced noticeably.

Looking at the 12 months comprising last winter and last summer (ie November 2012 to October 2013) the passenger figures illustrate the situation.

From November 2012 to March 2013 (the winter period) the airport handled 1,782,663 passengers in those five months, an average of 356,533 per month.

From April 2013 to October 2013 (the summer period) the airport handled 4,317,720 passengers in those seven months, an average of 616,817 per month.

The 12 months under review saw 6,100,383 passengers, an average of 508,365 per month.

January was the quietest month with just under 313,000 and August the busiest with just under 708,000.

All stats courtesy of the CAA.

This is going away from the charter thread except that charter flights have seen an enormous decrease over the past decade as the low cost airlines have taken over much of their traditional market.

A poster on the Dried Plum is saying the Estonian E170 will operate the Saturday Innsbruck flight (which would replace the Austrian F70 of last summer unless there are to be two INN flights on Sats this summer) with the aircraft routing BHX-INN-BRS-INN-BHX and the Inghams site now shows their Verona service on a Mistral Air aircraft but in the afternoon whereas the Tui Saturday VRN flight with Mistral (last summer it was a B734) is still shown on their site as early morning.

Does this mean that there will be two Mistral Air flights to VRN on Sats (one for Tui and one for Inghams) or will Inghams be taking seats on the Tui flights as they used to do prior to last summer when bmi regional operated a separate flight for them on Sats?

Not that I'm a betting man, I'd put money on them sharing the flight.

That does seem likely in the sense that it's doubtful there would be two Mistral B 734s to Verona on Saturdays except that conns757, someone whose track record on this forum suggests he is very well informed about BRS matters, says that the E170 was to replace last year's bmi regional E145 on the Inghams service because more seats were needed.

Until 2012 Inghams did share the Tui flight which used to be a TOM B 738 but last summer was downgraded to a Mistral B 734 so Inghams arranged their own separate flight.

Currently, Inghams are showing BRS-INN still as an Austrian flight (as in recent years when it's been a F70).

Addendum

Tui (Thomson Lakes & Mountains) and Inghams are showing the same Mistral Air flight number for the Sat Verona although timings are still different but it does now look from this that Inghams have reverted to taking seats on the Tui flight.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
