My journey back from Miami this year well and truly shot to buggery thanks to idiots flying drones around Frankfurt, which resulted in a diversion to Dusseldorf and eventual 3.5 hour delay. Kenny Everett treatment I think...round ‘em up, put ‘em in a field and bomb the b@#%&@ds.

See local and national press are reporting that the Yorkshire Air Ambulance had a near miss with a drone whilst in Leeds Bradford Controlled Airspace near Wakefield yesterday evening.

This really has got to stop before it causes a major incident.

Oh if you don't like the BBC look elsewhere by doing a simple Google search.

When these incidents are reported in the press the ignorance of some people is staggering, the comments in the Daily Mail being a good example. Most do not believe how serious a collision with a drone could be and think it’s all scaremongering.

Kenny Everett had the right idea....round 'em up, put 'em in a field and bomb the b******s. Does anyone else here wonder why these things are on general sale? As far as I am concerned the damn things should be banned from general sale and only used for commercial purposes with operators requiring full training and licensing.

Correct Bigman but will anyone in authority with descision making power take any notice? I doubtr it until, god forbid, there is a major incident where a plane is brought down by one of these idiots.

Daily Fail, say no more.

It’s like everything else, a minority of mindless idiots giving a bad name to the vast responsible majority of enthusiasts who enjoy flying these drones. My son in law has one and used it to take an aerial group photo at my son’s wedding to great effect and uses it to reccy his route when he goes kite surfing. He wouldn’t dream of using it for anything but a legitimate purpose and within the law.

Is there a realistic argument for saying that drone 'pilots' should have the same sort of training and licensing as an aircraft private pilot? It probably would not have to be as intensive, or expensive, as learning to fly an aircraft but at least those who qualified would have demonstrated their capability and serious commitment.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
