I had a thought about Wedgetail and the upcoming demise of E3 Sentry. Others have suggested that the Wedgetail order had been reduced from the contracted 5 aircraft to just 3.

True or not, I consider it the height of folly to deploy a minimum of any platforms in the defence of the realm. The sentry is a formidable aircraft and sight of it is enough to initiate second thoughts amongst the enemy.

Wedgetail is understandably progress but is it inspiring? Compared to Rivet Joint, it is like a Teddy bear versus a Tiger.

Just my opinion, others are most welcome.

It has been reduced to 3 yes but as it's based on the 737 it has a common parts and pilots etc to the P8 Poseidon Maritime Patrol aircraft which the RAF has up to 8 on order i believe. It's always possible that another government might order more in the future.

Just a little reminder about the Midlands Air Festival, over weekend 4-6 June at Ragley Hall nr. Alcester Warks. Still subject to cancellation by UK Government if they continue with public restrictions and expected weather deterioration. Highlights are Red Arrows and Typhoon display. Just follow A435 and A46 South from Birmingham and Redditch, satnav B49 5NJ.

We don't live far from Ragley Hall and usually get a bit of the traffic flying over, this year the Red Arrows are Friday, then two Spitfires along with the B17Sally B plus plenty more over the weekend which includes the mass launch every morning and evening of hot air balloons you just need the wind in the right direction to get to see them serenely pass overhead.

We have been known to frequent the Arrow Mill opposite Ragley Hall so may make a booking with an outside table by the river Arrow but don't tell the wife she doesn't think much of aeroplanes.

The Red Arrows just flown past literally almost over our back garden banking in perfct diamond formation.

They will be at Ragley Hall by now, fantastic site.

I heard them but not seen, they appear to have deviated from expected path. Tomorrow another attempt with Typhoon in attendance. Based temporarily at RAF Fairford.

The Red Arrows due to start todays display shortly due to route in via North Worcestershire Redditch at 1248 so hopefully over me just after one o'clock and into their display at Ragley Hall.

Just had the best 15 mins. of the year watching Typhoon do it's stuff over my neighbourhood and with full afterburners I have missed that thunderous noise under my feet. Last seen heading for a BHX flypast!

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
