I thought I would just share this update for those who have been following my journey.

I had the 'all clear' on my latest set of scans when at Clatterbridge on 18th September and things seemed to be going well. I then had an appointment with my plastics team last Friday and I happened, as you do, to mention a scab on my nose that refused to fully heal. Upshot was the need for a biopsy, which was performed yesterday and I now await the results. The consultant thinks that it is what in medical terms is called a Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) and, if that is the case, then it is non-invasive and will just need low-level treatment.

Well it's time for a further update following my latest scans. Remember these posts are not seeking sympathy, but just a case of my giving feedback on how the 'C' can effect life and how fortunate we are to have the health service that we have in the Merseyside area.
I have already developed a non-carcinoma growth on my nose and which is awaiting removal.
I saw my consultant at Clatterbridge in Liverpool yesterday afternoon. The good news is that the CT scan came back as clear, but there is a little gremlin in the MRI. Apparently there is a minute, pin head size, area in the front left lobe of my brain that has been flagged by the radiographer. The consultant says that the radiographer has not issued a warning, just pointed out the occurrence, and so my next MRI will be in 3, rather than 6 months. Hopefully nothing will develop any further but my concern, if any, is that the left brain lobe controls speech and I am aware of a return of a speech impediment over the last 18 months or so.
I still continue to live a positive attitude and look forward to seeing my children over the Christmas period.

Once again thanks to all of you who have so kindly given me your support.

The growth on my nose has been surgically removed and I now have a skin graft covering the area. The plastic surgeon says that the whole tumor has been excised.

As I said back in December my oncology consultant had remarked on a possible problem and next Wednesday is 'crunch day' as I have now had a further set of scans and will receive the results.

Hopefully, as the speech problem has now been around for 2 years and is probably the result of a nicked nerve after surgery, the MRI will be clear.

I'm sorry to burden you with this, but I am rather an introvert and so this is a way for me to 'sound off'.

I'll let you know how things go next week and can I just say a really big THANK YOU for all the support that you have given to me.

Firstly thank you for all of the support that members have shown and it has been really appreciated.
I'm now on my way home, having seen the oncologist, and am delighted to say that I have apparently been worrying unnecessarily.
I will still be having additional scans but, for now, I should sleep better - if I wasn't having to do some minor nursing for my wife who has trapped a nerve in her neck (and had a 36 hour sickness bug).
The joys of getting older - note, not getting old.

I was back at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in Liverpool on Wednesday and received the great news that the scans/MRI results have once again come back as clear. This means that I now have my schedule of appointments extended from every 3 months to every 6 months.

Great news and I feel as if I've finally returned to earth.

This will be my final post on this subject and this is an opportunity for me to thank everybody for their kind thoughts and support.

That's absolutely wonderful news, @Scottie Dog ! I'm so pleased for you.

It really resonates because my own mum has also been effectively given the all-clear for some time now. Her consultant told her, "While we can't officially say you're completely cured, this is as close as it gets." She was also told the likelihood of the tumour returning is now "exceedingly rare." Hearing your news alongside hers truly reinforces that there is genuine hope to be found. It powerfully shows the dreaded 'C' word isn't the death sentence it once felt like.

Seeing the courage shown by loved ones facing this journey, including my mum, and now hearing your story has been utterly humbling and inspiring. Yours and their strength is truly remarkable.
