I think its a pre-Christmas rush. Up the road has also seen the vast majority of FRA/MUC flights run with the A321.

If only LH still had the A300, it was times like this one of those would make an appearance on some flights (did they ever regularly run the A300 to BHX too?)

Great to see Lufthansa doing well, definitely one of Birmingham's most consistent airlines. MUC and FRA continue to remain popular connecting points, I recently read a review from a passenger deplaning a LH flight from BHX to Frankfurt and there was a dedicated bus just for the connections from BHX to PEK. All very encouraging.

Another Record Year for Lufthansa in Birmingham

Record Breaking Year for Lufthansa

Lufthansa is celebrating another record year in Birmingham with the highest number of passengers carried during 2013 in the airline’s history.

The 2013 figure of just over 602,000 shows an increase of more than 2.5 per cent on the figures for 2012. Passenger figures between Birmingham and Lufthansa’s main hubs in Frankfurt and Munich increased by 2.4 per cent to almost 444,000.

Announcing the figures, Christian Schindler, Lufthansa’s General Manager UK & Ireland, said: “Birmingham continues to shine as a key airport for Lufthansa within our UK network. When you consider both the current fluctuating economy and the start of transferring our non-hub services to subsidiary Germanwings, these figures are very encouraging. It reinforces our belief that discerning travellers still prefer the added value they receive from a full service airline. They know when they book with Lufthansa the price they pay includes the ability to take hand-luggage on board and check in one piece of baggage, assigned seats, good quality food and drink on board the aircraft and the option to check-in online or at the airport with no hidden extra cost.

“As we move through 2014 we will continue to transfer more of our non-hub services over to our subsidiary Germanwings. This will enable Lufthansa to focus on offering our Birmingham passengers the shortest possible onward connection times to our worldwide network through our hubs of Frankfurt and Munich. In 2013 the most popular onward destinations for Birmingham travellers included Vienna, Prague, Graz, Budapest, Moscow, Bucharest and Beijing”

Overall more than 104 million passengers flew with airlines in the Lufthansa Group last year. In total, Lufthansa, Germanwings, SWISS and Austrian Airlines carried a million more passengers between January and December than in the previous year.

Another article similar to the above about Lufthansa from the usually anti Birmingham Express and Star.

It's interesting that over a third of LH's BHX pax are 'corporate customers' and there may be a possibility of frequency upgrades in the future.

Mr Schindler said much of the growth in passengers to the hub airports at Frankfurt and Munich had come from business passengers travelling to destinations in eastern and southern Europe and using its long haul service to Beijing in China.

“More than a third of the passengers flying with us from Birmingham are corporate passengers. There is a lot of the automotive industry around Birmingham which is flying with us and we expect more from them going forward,” he added.......

......While there were no current plans to operate extra aircraft out of Birmingham, he said the group was looking at whether frequency of flights could be stepped up.

Germanwings
Initial schedule for Germanwings for the winter 2014 period suggests that HAM-BHX will drop from 6/7 to 4/7, CRJ900. Which makes BHXHAM worse off than under the previous BE regime. Berlin to remain as is 4/7 A319

Interesting article in todays Birmingham Mail business section.
Christian Schindler the groups UK manager was saying that passenger numbers from BHX so far this year are 7% up.The pax numbers are outstripping all other regional services in the UK including MAN,EDI,ABZ and BRS.
These numbers are for services to FRA,MUC,BRU and ZRH.All are showing good growth.
He goes on to mention that onward services to VIE and PRG are also very popular as are flights to China. There is a good mix of corporate and leisure pax as well as Chinese students studying in the UK using their flights.
Plenty of food for thought in this article about destinations we want to see served from BHX.
(sorry I don't know how to provide links)www.birminghammail.co.uk :good:

Always good to see airlines growing at BHX and given Lufthansa have been sending the odd A321 to BHX its good to know it’s down to increased demand. This also bodes well for DUS and hopefully we’ll see Swiss and Brussels Airlines grow to the point that they could start scheduling their mainline fleets to BHX.

Good to see LH still going strong :good:

Another Record Year for Lufthansa at Birmingham

2014 was another record breaking year for Lufthansa in the Midlands with over 482,000 passengers travelling in and out of Birmingham – a like for like increase of almost seven per cent on 2013.

The figures also show that almost 60 per cent of Lufthansa passengers leaving Birmingham take advantage of the quick and easy onward connections to the airline’s worldwide network through their Frankfurt and Munich hubs.

Announcing the figures Christian Schindler, Lufthansa’s Regional Director UK, Ireland & Iceland, said: “Birmingham has continued to shine as a key market for Lufthansa within our network. The demand for our services has continued to grow and we have been able to increase capacity accordingly.

“The figures prove once again that discerning travellers appreciate the way Lufthansa has responded to the challenges of the travel market in the face of ever-increasing competition from low-cost airlines. To maintain the leading position in our market we must be better than anyone else in terms of reliability and innovation at a competitive price.

"This is why Lufthansa continually reviews pricing on its routes to Frankfurt and Munich. In addition, the latest figures show Lufthansa has recorded the best figures for punctuality in its history with over 85% of all flights leaving Frankfurt and Munich within 15 minutes of scheduled departure time and we continue to enhance the on-board experience for customers. The large number of Birmingham passengers who take onward connections can now have the added option of our high quality premium economy product on our long-haul services.

"We are also fitting 20 Airbus A321s with a revolutionary in-flight entertainment programme developed by Lufthansa Systems. This enables passengers to connect their own laptop, tablet or smartphone via Wi-Fi to the in-flight infotainment service offering a wide range of films, TV series, music, games and flight information. Before the flight, passengers simply download the Lufthansa entertainment app or the Microsoft Silverlight browser plug-in for notebooks for free - like the whole program itself - at http://LH.com/entertainment-app-en

“Our passengers know that when they book with Lufthansa they are guaranteed to receive our high quality on-board services with no hidden extra costs. And we will continue to offer our Birmingham passengers the shortest possible onward connection times to our worldwide network through our hubs of Frankfurt and Munich.”

In 2014 the most popular onward destinations for Lufthansa’s Birmingham travellers included Vienna, Prague, Istanbul, Johannesburg, Budapest, Moscow, Graz, Hong Kong, Beijing and Tokyo.

Overall, the full service airlines in the Lufthansa Group (Lufthansa, SWISS and Brussels Airlines) continue to be among the leading carriers at Birmingham having carried a combined total of more than 708,000 passengers in and out of Birmingham last year.

Germanwings

HAM-BHX and DUS-BHX flights for winter 2015/16 now bookable. No changes, i.e. HAM-BHX continues as per this winter's timetable 4/7.

BHX/FRA

LH956/7 next summer is showing as an A321 :good:

Munich is in the process of being upgraded from the 195 to an A319.

The evening arrival/morning departure night stopper is loaded and the rest should follow.

Surely it's an April Fool's as the shadows look identical on wings and stabilisers

I didn't realise it's April 1st today :fool:

The BHX destinations list on Wikipedia has Lufthansa starting BHX-MUN on 1 August, but they give no source. I hear Lufthansa Cityline often sell out their E190 flights, so if LH are really starting mainline BHX operations from Munich I suppose it's due to capacity issues?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
