Glasgow Airport is gearing up for one of its busiest periods of the year today (Thursday 12 October) as tens of thousands of holidaymakers prepare to jet off for the October holiday week.

Over 120,000 people are expected to pass through the airport between today and Monday 16 October with many flying out to popular sunspots in the Canary Islands, southern Spain, Turkey, Cyprus, Portugal, Cancun and Dubai.

Destinations such as Rome, Reykjavik, Barcelona, Porto, Lisbon, Dubrovnik and Krakow are set to be popular destinations for passengers keen on sightseeing and enjoying a city break.

In anticipation of the busy period ahead, the airport and its airline partners will have extra staff on hand to help guide passengers, particularly those who require additional support or are travelling with young children, through check-in and security.

Ronald Leitch, Glasgow Airport’s Operations Director, said: “We expect the airport to be extremely busy over the next few days as tens of thousands of holidaymakers head off for some much-need sun and to escape the downpours we’ve seen here in Scotland.

“The October school break is one of our peak periods and we expect to welcome an average of more than 120,000 people through our doors between today and Monday.

“As always during peak periods at the airport, we advise customers to arrive in good time to get through check-in and security. We have a number of pre-security preparation areas in place across to help passengers get ready in advance of entering our central security hall.”

Glasgow Airport’s website features lots of helpful tips and advice for passengers travelling through the terminal. There is also a blog with advice about travelling this October school break.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
