It's looking like Newcastle airport will only have 5 aircraft based there for summer 2010, down from 6 this year. Jet2 must be offering some stiff competition?

There is some conjecture on another forum that easyJet may axe its base at Newcastle later this year.

It's been brought about because Newcastle is the only UK base not to have had its winter 2010/2011 schedule published and so far as I can tell none of the other bases are showing Newcastle flights in their lists for next winter. There is also talk of unease amongst the NCL based crews.

Even if the base is to be closed, which seems unlikely in my view, I can't believe that easyJet won't continue to serve the airport from at least some of its London airports using equipment from other bases.

Reported on the Dried Plum that easyJet will reduce to three based aircraft this winter and next summer.

The last UK base with only three aircraft was East Midlands (now closed) so perhaps this is part of a winding-down then winding-up procedure at NCL. I think they had six aircraft based at one time.

Conjecture is that Jet2 will build up its NCL base even more to take advantage of easy's retrenchment.

This is very interesting as it would seem that passengers are choosing Jet2 over Easyjet and it would appear that Jet2 is winning hands down.

It could be to do with all the problems they are having.
They were talking about getting rid of some aircraft because of crewing issues so maybe they are just pulling out even though they have the customer base.

Easyjet have today announced that it will commence a new 2x daily Newcastle - London Gatwick service using Airbus A319's in March 2014 replacing the current flybe on the route which is been axed due to fees been charged by Gatwick Airports owners.

I hope easyjet can make it work! But its a route that has also been tried before by Jet2 and British Airways in the past...

Forget BREXIT, Easyjet have launched x 2 new winter routes from NCL (y)
Easyjet new routes effective November 1st:

Berlin SXF Tu/Th/Sat
Las Palmas Tu

I'd have thought that they'd be looking at 2 different markets. Eastern will appeal to people who want the convenience of flying locally. The problem for Eastern not just at Teesside is how big is that market now.

Indeed especially at moment when travel has plummeted . It not the best time for Eastern to launch big from MME.

So does this news sub seed the news in the previous post indicating 3 based aircraft for summer 21?

I'm not surprised by this news at all to be honest. The talk down the pub has suggested EasyJet never really managed to make Newcastle work for them. Up until a few years back Newcastle saw a decent number of Scottish passengers crossing the border to use the airport but in recent years EasyJet has opened a sizable operation from Edinburgh. The airline has had some fierce competition from Ryanair and Jet2 and it hasn't being able to break into the holiday sector quite as well as it perhaps thought it might, not from Newcastle anyway.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
