Half a million choose London Luton Airport for half-term getaway

London Luton Airport (LLA) predicts it will welcome more than half a million passengers* over the February half-term break, building on a strong start to the year that saw over a million passengers passing through the airport in January.

The European cities of Amsterdam, Barcelona, Lisbon and Paris are once again among the most sought-after half-term getaways. Equally popular is Cairo’s Giza Sphinx International Airport, a recent addition to LLA’s departure boards which, thanks to its balmy temperatures, is proving attractive to those escaping the winter blues, along with Antalya, Marrakech and Sharm El Sheikh, as travellers jet off to warmer climes. While winter sports enthusiasts are hitting the slopes via Geneva and Salzburg this year.

LLA's continued investment in the Terminal experience means that passengers have even more shops and restaurants to choose from. Recent additions include conveyor belt sushi specialist Yo! and No1 Lounge – a stylish new executive lounge offering. Upcoming launches include a revamped Pret a Manger opening landside and a new, dedicated LEGO store opening its doors in March.

Clare Armstrong, Head of Guest Experience at London Luton Airport, commented: “The February half-term getaway is always an exciting time at London Luton Airport. For many people, it’s the first opportunity of the year to head for some sunshine, hit the slopes, or visit family and friends.

“Our latest research** reveals that travel habits are becoming bigger, bolder and braver. We are seeing a steep rise in demand for ‘destination dupes’ with passengers abandoning expensive long-haul destinations for cheaper, more accessible alternative locations such as Albania, which has been dubbed the ‘Maldives of Europe’. The frequency of daily flights is also fuelling demand from day-trippers looking for hassle-free 24-hour city breaks in places such as Malaga, Paris and Dublin.

“Regardless of the reasons for travel, we will be working hard to deliver a simple, friendly passenger experience to everyone heading off from LLA this half-term. We now have over 50 shops and restaurants for passengers to enjoy and the good news is that there are more to come, meaning even greater choice for everyone who passes through the terminal this year.”

For those travelling to and from LLA, short, mid and long-stay parking facilities are available, as well as public transport options including the Luton Airport Express, a dedicated rail service that allows passengers to travel from central London to the LLA terminal in around 30 minutes.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
