That's an early start for some Welsh passengers from BRS, very disappointing.

One flight only today, Friday used to be a busy day for KLM.

I read on a Facebook group that KLM might be pulling out of CWL as it’s a loss making route. It seems like a pie in the sky rumour although it was claimed it came from KLM staff. Has anyone else heard anything similar?

Everything on Facebook is to be believed of course!

🤣

(…and yes I’m jesting)

Of course 🙃
I was just wondering if there was the slightest truth to it.
Only way we would find out is if it happened. I hope it doesn't as it would be a massive blow to the airport and would pose serious questions to its owners as well. Many will argue though that the cutting of the night stopper could indicate the route isn't doing well but the staff member might have got the night stopper ending/not returning mixed up with the route ending.

Pax numbers always seem healthy, and I’ve never seen any cut price fares so I can’t imagine it’s doing badly. The night stopper ending does puzzle me as there were other airports with smaller loads every month.

I suppose it depends on where the traffic is going. KLM is always about connections. The night stopper would have been more for the USA West Coast and Europe that day. It could be possible that traffic has lessened since 2020 especially with the advent of zoom and companies changing their travel habits. Unfortunately Wales doesn't have a strong international tourism industry that helps boost routes like Amsterdam. If there is even the remote possibility of them dropping the route the airport and the government need to do something to keep them there as KLM is Wales connection to the globe.

Looks like KLM are returning to three flights inc. the later arrival post March 25.
Winter 24/25 initially started like that but it was chopped back to 2 daily around 2 months ago. The only hope of it returning to 3 daily is that they’re still selling tickets for the 6am flight. If it was chopped completely then I doubt they would keep putting them on sale.

As SAS is now a member of Skyteam its now possible to book flights with them from Cardiff via Amsterdam with KLM Screenshot_20240901_191302_Chrome.jpg

Sadly it looks like the overnight aircraft is permanently gone. Summer 2025 is showing as 14 weekly. 2 daily departures one at 09.45 and the other at 17.15.

Another disappointment for CWL, especially for a route like AMS which used to do so well.
There's still 14 weekly flights. Hopefully we'll see E190s on them and of course there's always the hope the overnight will return but it is a real disappointment on such a key route. CWL doesn't seem to be having much luck lately.

Looks like KLM have made some changes for Cardiff Airport.
Unfortunately it looks like KL1091/KL1092 AMS-CWL 16.25-16.45 CWL-AMS 17.35-19.55 on Saturdays will be operated by Eastern Airways from April for the summer. Looking at the equipment in general and it looks like we'll see 7 E175 departures and 7 E190 departures.

I don’t like to be constantly pessimistic of an airline, but Eastern are so unreliable.
I do wonder if we’ll ever see the 6am flight return. It’ll probably be a few years away at best.

Yeah me too they don't aspire confidence. It is a concern that the default for winter doesn't include the 3rd daily. Sadly I feel it might be a struggle for CWL to see it return.

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
