Has them on speed dial! How did Mr Stokes get a quote from the nimby group so quickly is what I wonder...
Insider knowledge perhaps! How did Mr Stokes get a quote from the nimby group so quickly is what I wonder...
There is a mention of additional hangerage. Also one I nearly choked on was ( but I'm sure it is actually a wording typo) is the mention of, and I quote "additional taxiways and parallel runway". What is clear is a new future terminal is larger than the previously planned one.Very interesting update and exciting.
Some bits I have picked out:
2030 now 200 Mill instead of 100 Mill.
LBA now owned by InfraBridge not AMP?
Replacement 2030 terminal building still in the same place as the original new one.
Increase of freight through AC bellys instead of cargo flights.
Shame to not see any expansion of any hangers on site.
Also to add a on site hotel is fantastic and much needed. In comparison to other airport I always thought LBA's choice/offering was slim.

Just imagine! TWO runways both pointing the wrong direction! There is a mention of additional hangerage. I guess construction cost is a factor, especially given the need for future multi storey car parks to be built to take greater weights due to the considerable extra weight of electric vehicles. Perhaps too what happened at Luton with the fire will make them think twice about multi storey.Anyone surprised they just keep expanding the distant surface parking served by bus rather than going for a multi level short/mid stay?.. not only is that higher margin (no bus/higher price) but there's less competition...
Well the terminal extension was just dreams then when it appeared in the last master plan. Now, it's being built. Some dreams come true.I can't get excited about much of this. I've seen many 'visions' or 'masterplans' in the last 2 decades I've been involved with LBA, none of them have come to full fruition. They are, after all, just aspirational plans. Of interest to me is the mention of an upgrade to the primary radar system. The current system is about 30 years old so much has changed in that time. LBA has never had a surface movement radar and now it's possible to get combined SMR and Primary radar, circa 3 million quid so not huge in the great scheme of things. The challenge is where to put it! As for the solar farm. I doubt the CAA would ever approve such a thing so close to a CAT 3 runway system. Like I said, aspirations, or in other words, just dreams!
Id say LBA is currently in an exciting period of change for the better with 3 major projects underway (extension, reconfigure and apron expansion) this is certainly the most exciting period since the runway extension, so for once something at our airport is actually happening, the 2 year program of development will hopefully then spur on future expansion.I can't get excited about much of this. There is however a key difference, the majority of this plan only covers the next 6 years. The two key deliverables - the arrivals extension and the revamp of the current terminal are either in development or budgeted for and about to go out to tender.I can't get excited about much of this. I don't believe it will all happen, at least not for a long time. However, any government wanting tax revenue will have no choice to permit many developments. That will never happen in a million years.
You've got an anti aviation government with a bunch of spineless anti aviation Leeds based MP's and an anti aviation West Yorkshire mayor. And then a lot of moronic councillors.
