Jet2 Prepares to Graduate from AIM to the London Stock Exchange Main Market
In a move that signals its evolution from a regional operator into a major force in European travel, Jet2 plc has announced plans to transition its stock listing from the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) to the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange. The company targets completing the shift before the end of its financial year in March 2027.

Having spent two decades on AIM, Jet2 has outgrown the junior growth market in almost every operational metric. Now established as the UK’s largest tour operator and third-largest airline, management described the step as a natural evolution that aligns with the scale, maturity, and financial track record the business has established.

Opening the Door to Global Capital
Graduating to the Main Market represents a strategic move to unlock broader financial backing. While AIM served Jet2 well during its rapid expansion phase, the junior index naturally limits access to large-scale global institutional funds whose investment mandates prohibit holding growth-market equities.

Stepping up to the Main Market will increase Jet2’s profile among international investors, improve share trading liquidity, and clear the path for future inclusion in the FTSE 250 index. Market analysts note that FTSE 250 membership is the clear long-term prize, as tracker funds and broader institutional flows would automatically drive further demand for the stock. Investors responded warmly to the announcement, with Jet2 shares rallying around four percent in early trading.

Operational Strength Backs Corporate Strategy
The corporate milestone comes alongside strong operational momentum across the group’s network. Trading updates delivered ahead of the company's Annual General Meeting show sustained demand through the peak summer 2026 season. Booked passenger numbers are up nearly nine percent year-on-year, outpacing a seven-and-a-half percent capacity increase to 19.9 million seats. Load factors have also seen a solid bump, running 1.5 percentage points ahead of last year despite a wider industry trend toward later booking windows.

Expansion at newer operational bases continues to bolster confidence. Operations at London Gatwick have consistently outperformed initial targets, prompting the airline to increase its based fleet at the airport to seven aircraft for summer 2027. Looking ahead to the winter season, seat capacity is already up eight percent, heavily driven by continued growth across southern bases.

Crucially, Jet2 enters this next growth phase with strong financial insulation. The group has hedged over 90 percent of its FY27 fuel requirements and foreign exchange exposure, securing clear cost predictability against volatile commodity markets.

A Milestone for the Group
Speaking on the update, CEO Steve Heapy highlighted that the timing reflects the sheer scale of the operation Jet2 has built, backed by a strong balance sheet and a footprint that puts over 90 percent of the UK population within a 90-minute drive of its 14 UK bases.

For followers of the leisure airline, the move onto the Main Market isn't just a corporate restructuring. it is a clear statement of intent as Jet2 cements its position alongside Europe's legacy aviation giants.
