Re: bmi

Over the years they have made a series of fundamental errors. It's no wonder BMI are struggling.

[textarea]BMI to take on BA with Heathrow – Libya route

BMI is to launch a daily service to Libya in a move that will see the airline go head-to-head on the route with British Airways on the route. The Heathrow - Tripoli service, which is set to take off on December 1, is partly aimed at bolstering BMI links for oil workers – many of whom are currently flying with the airline from Aberdeen to Heathrow before switching to other airlines.

The airline already flies to several oil-rich countries, including Jeddah and Riyadh in the Middle East and Moscow and Almaty in Eastern Europe. The new service also complements its links to Africa, with BMI already flying to Cairo, Khartoum, Addis Ababa and Freetown. Currently British Airways is the only UK airline to operate a route to Libya, with its flights to Tripoli beginning in1999.

A BMI spokesman said: ‘This route expands our network for both business and leisure travellers. About 90 percent of Libya is covered by the Sahara desert which is becoming more attractive to UK tour operators.’ Return flights start at £265

[textarea]BMI to take over Swiss Basel flights

BMI is to operate flights to Basel from Heathrow airport for its fellow Lufthansa subsidiary Swiss from March 27. Three services a day will operate on weekdays from Heathrow, plus two a day at weekends. Flights will compete against British Airways, which operates three times a day. easyJet also flies to Basel from Gatwick.

The Heathrow route will replace the current three daily services operated by Swiss from London City Airport. The change will mean a 135 percent jump in capacity, as BMI will use Airbus A319 aircraft rather than the Avro RJ100 which Swiss uses from London City. BMI will offer a full business cabin on its flights and economy passengers will get a food and drink service throughout the day.[/textarea]

British Midland International threaten Heathrow pullout

It is widely believed that British Midland International are scrapping their five times daily service from London Heathrow to Glasgow because of soaring costs at the London airport. This news comes only days after the airline announce the scaling back of services between Heathrow and Manchester.

Today the Telegraph reports that the airline is considering pulling out of Heathrow altogether if BAA continue to implement such high charges. The Telegraph reports that the airline is planning a new regional strategy to take passengers to hub airports on the continent for their onward connections.

I think this move away from London Heathrow has already begun with gradual pull out of the region connections to Heathrow. Personally I don't think British Midland International will be at Heathrow by next year. The re branding back to using the name British Midland International also indicates a more regional focus.

LHR-GLA is under threat of being axed, but it has not been axed yet

Rightly pointed out Humberside. I have altered my previous post accordingly.

[textarea]BMI wants CAA action on Heathrow charges

BMI has asked the Civil Aviation Authority to investigate BAA over the increase in fees for domestic passengers at Heathrow Airport. The airline has said that BAA is ‘unreasonably discriminating’ against domestic passengers and domestic airlines operating from Heathrow.

Increases in domestic passenger charges at Heathrow by more than 50% from April 1 were blamed by BMI for the decision to drop its flights between Heathrow and Glasgow from March 27. BAA has said that the route is unprofitable - with some reports suggesting it was losing £1 million a month - and the BMI is masking its decision to use its Heathrow slots for more profitable medium and long haul flights.

The airline said it was launching a complaint against the increased domestic passenger fees. BMI said in a statement that it remains ‘committed to Scotland and Northern Ireland and regards its United Kingdom and Ireland network as part of its core business’.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
