UK Bookies Slash Odds On White Christmas
Bookmakers have cut the odds of a white Christmas with snow set to blanket parts of Britain as the cold snap continues.
William Hill said it had received an estimated 22,000 bets on a downpour on December 25.
One customer from Derbyshire could win a record £14,700 payout if it snows in Aberdeen, Cardiff and London after he staked £1,700 with the firm.
Ladbrokes said it was offering its shortest ever price for a white Christmas in London.
The firm set the odds at 11/8, which eclipses the 6/4 it quoted in 1999.
But Sky News weather presenter Isobel Lang said forecasters are still exercising caution over the chances of snow on December 25.
The chances of the snow lingering depends on whether milder air arrives, as has been forecast.
"It gets more interesting on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but there are still uncertainties," Lang said.
"Milder air is trying to get in from the West, which may mean less cold weather in the South and South West on Christmas Day, with rain expected.
"However, there is definitely the risk of snow for central and northern parts if this milder, damper weather comes in."
She was more sure of the low temperatures in the coming days.
