Many thanks for that detailed digest, Severn.

The 44 services operated by the 'away' base is the equivalent of two full time based aircraft. As with Ryanair's substantial use of 'away'-based aircraft it helps even out the peaks and troughs of airline movements.

Although CDG sees a reduction of four services (from 14 to 10) Paris actually gains three flights when taking into account the daily Orly service.

I make it a possible peak summer needing 18 aircraft ? - 18 late arrivals on Mondays
There could be a revision of routes or timings to fit the 17 currently forecast.

I also make 18 needed on thurs pm too ( could we be having a short period no 18 - we used to have a temporary extra aircraft during peak summer back when there were 737s in the fleet )

easyJet has been cancelling flights in recent days. Today Bodrum, Split and Athens have been cancelled. There were a couple yesterday and on Friday.

Some were previously in the system with (vide seat selector) decent loads showing. For example, on Friday the final EDI of the day was cancelled with all EDIs that day including the final one showing pretty high loads.

Is it staffing issues with crews suffering during this massive Covid resurgence?

Unfortunately with the media seemingly getting bored of the going’s on in Ukraine they have been able to get the experts to return to Covid. The result is that although the aviation industry at some but not all airports is showing a resurgence in flights and passengers many original staff who were made redundant and managed to find employment elsewhere are still loath to return in case a few months down the road they’re back to where they were almost two years ago. Hopefully if the present situation doesn’t get worse then confidence will come back and staff will return to the industry.

Free testing cannot end soon enough. Crippling the economy and industries when majority of the country are safe and vaccinated.

I would hazard a guess covid doesn't help however as @Red Flyer has alluded to - staff shortages come from the fact the industry was done over the past 2 years by inept world governments and pointless restrictions. This lead to redundancies, furlough etc, which has lead to many, who wouldn't of left, leaving onto pastures new etc. The execs, understandably want money back in the company now they can, but there is a reluctance to join the industry as it's deemed a risk. At a whim it can be shut down for the next thing.

The same is been experienced in the hospitality industry also.

Few changes to the schedule for peak summer - Madrid and Berlin slightly reduce in frequency but split now goes daily

Funchal is indeed an interesting and challenging airport for the pilots and is "captain only " for landing and take off for which additional training is required.

The landing normally requires a U turn towards cliffs and hills which can create unpredictable winds and a curved approach on short finals. To add to the fun there are shear drop offs at each end of the runway but at least he runway is just over 9,000ft. long.
Must be a great airpot for spotting.

The runway was extended some years ago so must have been somewhat more tricky before the extension. For anyone not familiar, the runway extension was effectively built on stilts. Quite a feet of engineering.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
