The monorail has been closing at 00:30 for a few months now.
I can't remember when the change was implemented, either start of the year,or,start of the summer season.
I used it to get from the airport staff car park last night,(NEC west cp),and only 1 carriage was in use on the left side of the monorail as you head to the airport,(approx 19:30).
Not sure why this was,but caused 1 or 2 problems as at this time of day it can get very busy.

Afternoon all,

Currently sat on EZY191 at BHX. Early arrival to be told handling agent too busy to attend the aircraft. It's been 15mins so far. Told another 10 mins minimum. Kids invited into cockpit. Summats gotta give. 153pax on board.

Cheers

Karl

Sadly this seems to becoming a more and more regular occurrence. I've seen some on social media describe it as if the aircraft arriving almost took them by surprise.

I know that these issues are far from unique to BHX and that many airports have been caught a little off guard this summer but I hope that lessons have been learned. And that things are in place for the peak summer period, especially the August Bank Holiday weekend when I am travelling next :nailbiting:

For me it doesn't matter as I support BHX unreservedly. It's the airport I grew up close to, wagged school a few times and went spotting to and am totally at ease flying from. I'll always try for BHX first, however it doesn't always work out. Out of the 82 flights I took last year, 67 were from BHX. Things may get bad but they'll get better in the end. Should get some T shirts made supporting BHX. I'd wear one no problem lol.
Next flight on Monday and that will be flight no 45 so far this year. Will I beat last year's total? 9th July after that....BHX of course
Cheers

Why so many flights mate, is it business or pleasure ? Either way what an awesome life you have (y)

Sometimes it feels awesome (A380s to the Far East in J) but recently it's absolutely doing my head in. I can't wait to get off most flights.
I moved to Turkey last year which meant I took a lot of flights to and from Dalaman for most of the year. Interspersed with my own holidays in between. This year is totally different. My best mate is terminally ill in Ireland. I've been tooing and froing helping out through the chemotherapy and the hardest of times. In the winter that means three flights there and three flights back. Now it's summer there are direct flights from Dalaman to Belfast albeit at the most awful times. On top of that my other halfs dad is desperately ill too. So with all that, I seem to be in the air an awful lot. Moving to France at some point later this year so it will be hello Flybe!!
I've taken some cracking flights and some awful ones. The best was to Singapore with Etihad in F. The worst was coming back from Singapore in F. I was sure the 789 needed to be taken out of service after that flight, the worst turbulence I've ever experienced bar none. No in-flight service for the whole journey.
At the moment it's a means to an end. An end I don't want to see the end of really as I'll lose my best friend I've known since forever 8-(

All the best

Karl

Karl, I know from personal experience that in situations such as those there are just no words, so all I can offer are my thoughts and prayers. I hope that in the worst of times your friend takes great comfort in the effort that you are going to on their behalf, it sounds as if they are very lucky to have you. I sincerely hope that with the passing of time there are blue skies ahead :)

Karl, I echo Rays thoughts as I have been through a similar experience with my wife but fortunately she is now in remission and we take every day as it comes.

I can only wish you and your friend all the best and as Ray says words are not really adequate.

Thanks guys, your kind words are very much appreciated. Tough times but I keep on smiling....all I can do really.

On a side note it's looking like a ZB A321 on monday to DLM. Was hoping for the 738. I think I read somewhere the first service is next Thursday to Rome?

Thanks again guys.

Cheers

Hey All,
Took the Monarch to Dalaman this afternoon. 198 pax so no hope of G-ZBAV...G-ZBAI was the chariot.

Would've been an on time departure, but captain advised that the handling agent had broken the tug. I heard quite a loud bang just before push back, then no push back. Maybe a broken bar....who knows.

Back home now and forecasting 108f on Friday. Sheesh....too hot for me. Off to hide lol.

When we're over in Nerja (like now), we head for the bar/restaurant with the best aircon when it's hot, service can take a hike. ;););)

Haha.....the next five days are all due to be over 100f. The tannoys around Dalyan are advising of extreme heat, now upgauged to 109f on Friday. Agreed...service can take a hike. Wet tshirt all day or live in the pool....stay cool Jon !!

decided to try out Jet2 for the first time. Anyone flew with them yet?

Not used them personally but I'm going to try to next year. I have spoken to several people who have flown Jet2 and all of the reports have been positive.

It would be great to hear your experience when you return? :)

Lets hope Monarch are also attracting new customers to counteract the previously satisfied passengers who want
to experiment with another airline.

Indeed. They have brought in some new routes which others do not serve so hopefully they are doing well. Interestingly they increased frequency on LCA despite the new competition. Will be interesting to see the schedules for next year.

The arrival of a big carrier like Jet2 must have some effect on common routes. After the financial problems last year and the competition this year I hope that Monarch can continue to prosper. They have been a big contributer at BHX for a good while.

Business is not sentimental, however.

I have recently used Monarch on one of their new routes to Porto even though Ryanair were cheaper (in fairness I'd probably rather walk than use Ryanair). We're also flying Monarch to Malaga in a few months, ahead of competition from Jet2, Ryanair, Vueling, Norwegian, Thomson and British Airways. Next year if Valencia returns I'm hoping to go there so long as the days and times work, so Monarch certainly haven't lost my business. In fact they're still the ones that I go to first.

Jet2 arrived with a big reputation and from what I have heard it is certainly deserved, if that means Monarch have to up their game a little then so be it. I think (hope) that Monarch have a loyal enough following to get them through the initial onslaught and that once the Jet2 novelty wears off they will be fine. Some more new markets certainly may help though, I can think of a couple that could prove popular.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
