If i remember correctly the last time CWL had some Ryanair diverts they were Eastern European flights as well. Away based crews i believe. Though I believe this was a based aircraft.
I do wonder if the reason they divert to BHX is because it's a base and Cardiff isn't so BHX is selected as the preferred divert airport while CWL is the emergency only one.
It's always possible.

Cardiff was chosen as the diversion Airfield because of the extra fuel burn with flaps in the position they were in.

Ryanair has released it's 2018/19 winter schedule for Cardiff Airport.
Tenerife South Monday and Thursday TFS-CWL 07.45-11.50 CWL-TFS 12.15-16.25.
I'm sure flights for the Wales v Ireland 2019 Six nations match will be released at a later date.

It is shame considering they can offer so much more than just 2 flights a week.

It’s a shame Ryanair won’t expand to the other Canary Islands from Cardiff.

You never know. Ryanair is blaming APD in part for the closure of its GLA base with the flights being switched to EDI. I don't quite follow that as the same APD rate is payable at EDI.

Nevertheless, it shows the importance that Ryanair attaches to APD-type taxes. It has been campaigning for a long time against such taxes and invariably 'rewards' airports in those countries that reduce or abolish them.

It's odd that Ryanair is acting as it is now as the Scottish Government still intends to reduce APD, which it has renamed Air Departure Tax, as soon as the issue with the Highland and Islands airports can be resolved.

So if the Welsh Government was given APD powers and abolished or even significantly reduced the tax it's likely that Ryanair would respond with a larger operation at CWL.

If Ryanair wanted to operate more routes from Cardiff there is nothing stopping them from doing it now. APD is just an excuse as they already operate 2 other routes from Cardiff so APD doesn't seem to stop them from operating them. Yes any abolition or reduction of APD would make those routes more profitable but they must be profitable now for them to operate them and continue to operate them and I'd be surprised if there isn't other routes they could operate from Cardiff they just don't seem to want too. Though I do wonder if the Welsh government should look at trying to give them some sort of subsidy with the proviso that they include at least 2 Eastern European routes and another new city route in any new network.

With Glasgow i wouldn't be surprised if they are closing it because of their pilot shortage, i believe they closed Timisoara in Romania as well, so may be looking at closing smaller bases and relocate the pilot's and crew to other bigger airports. APD is just an excuse which gets them some air time and puts the blame on the Scottish government.

What you say is undoubtedly true but the point I was making is that Ryanair has a track record of making a public 'statement' when a country reduces or axes its aviation tax. It usually takes the form of additional services to the airports of the country in question, accompanied by a big public fanfare of the reasons. On short haul at £13 per head per adult passenger Ryanair would probably be pocketing around an average of an extra £2,000 per outbound flight from UK airports if it could keep the APD equivalent instead of handing it to the government.

That's why I suggest a Ryanair bonus for CWL if APD was abolished in Wales. The existing Ryanair routes at CWL undoubtedly are profitable because TFS at least has been operating for a few years. Other potential CWL routes might well be profitable but they might not be as profitable as options elsewhere. APD abolition might easily sway the profitability equation for such potential routes.

The FR flights this winter are 2 per week same days to TFS as winter 18/19 will be.

Winter 2018-2019

Ryanair still adding routes. Announced a 2 x weekly Bournemouth-Paphos. That's the sort of route they might look at for CWL.

That would be a great route for CWL. Has PFO got a FR base? As the BOH flights are operated by a BOH aircraft

Yes, PFO does have a FR base. Opened in 2012 it seems.

Would certainly be a great route to add, however I feel Ryanair would of added this one at the same time they announced TFS would be returning.

Was Cobalt planning to fly PFO-CWL or LCA-CWL?
I think it was Larnaca.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
