Emirates will launch a daily service between Edinburgh and Dubai using a 3 class 777 300er 8 first class, 42 business class and 304 economy seats. From 1st October 2018. The flight times will be
DXB-EDI 19.55-14.50
EDI-DXB 20.15-06.40

Leaving Dubai at 8pm and not arriving to Edinburgh until 3pm the next day (6pm Dubai time)... that's a hell of a long flight! ;)

Think its probably meant to be a 07:55 departure from Dubai.

Going the long way round!!
I've changed it now and they've changed it in the article as well, it's an 09.55 DXB departure.
It will be interesting to see if they upgrade GLA to an A380 as rumoured or now keep it a 777.

So in comes Emirates and out goes Etihad.

With Glasgow apparently getting the A380 permanently I believe, could Edinburgh handle an A380 runway and facilities wise?

The respective runway lengths are fairly similar: 2,665 metres at GLA and 2,556 at EDI. Whether such things as runway/apron strength, taxiways and handling infrastructure are sufficient I don't know.

EDI has Qatar as well as Emirates of course which GLA doesn't, and GLA had Emirates before EDI. Whether that tips the Emirates scales in favour of GLA is something else we can only ponder over.

With EDI having just the 1 daily flight vs 2 daily at GLA, I'd imagine Emirates would up frequency to EDI before upgrading the aircraft.

Edinburgh has been removed from sale in summer 2021.

The ACL report for 2023 suggests that Emirates is seeking to resume 12 routes and start 1 new one. Edinburgh is mentioned as one of the resumption routes.

EK have retained slots at EDI. It appears to be 5 x weekly. Interestingly, QR have doubled slots and seats which suggest they may go double daily. With Qatar operating with LF’s in the high 90’s, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they did.

Edinburgh has been reinstated as a UK destination served by EK on their website. I suspect we are about to hear confirmation of their return to EDI.

August next year apparently, so maybe an October 1st start like when the service originally started?

Looks more likely. Good news for QR. Another summer season without any substantial competition to the ME and beyond. TK continue to perform very strongly, but seem content on using 321’s, apart from an occasional 332/3.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
