Interesting list! Routes like that should be popular and i'd imagine that Tenerife, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria could all be year round as well. Would be very good for EXT if they came off!

My brother was completely unaware of this development when he visited me last weekend so a little seed was sown into his mind. I reckon he might be tempted with the Naples service and, should he actually look into it, Malta as well. He's a bit like me in going after the history/culture of a place and there's more than enough of interest in Malta for a visit especially with everywhere accessible by bus (cost me about £6 for a weeks travel).

Malaga and Malta ought to get very good load factors in summer although, as has been said so often, high load factors don't always satisfy Ryanair if the yield is not to its liking with examples of such routes being axed.

Naples might surprise you although whether it can achieve 90%-plus load factors even in the peak summer months might be a big ask. It's a very busy cruise port so that will help, as well as the area itself which is an extremely popular tourist attraction.

We don't know the arrangements between Ryanair and the airport but if it's a very good one from the airline's perspective that will obviously help with all the routes' development.

As we know, Ryanair has been serving NQY for many years with a gap when it didn't like the airport's departure tax; not a huge programme at any one time but a presence nevertheless.

A few years ago it dipped its toes into the CWL water with TFS then FAO and now MLA (it used to serve CWL from Dublin until twelve years ago before pulling that route because of the then airport owner's high charges). Now it's EXT's turn to join in.

The next year or two will show whether Ryanair intends increasing its presence at EXT, CWL and NQY instead of, as it did for a number of years, relying mainly on BRS and to a much lesser degree BOH to serve these catchments.

Flights start in a month from exeter on ryanair, anyone no how bookings are going, are they just summer only or are they going to be bookable year round. When will they anounce the winter schd. Their is a lot off rummers about more routes to come. I was told that flybe\virgin prob wont keep the sun routes, their going to consentrate on uk, with feeder flights. Todays news on virgin, air france, klm, delta tie up will be good for flybe and stobart aw , they will prob get more routes, flying into paris, amsterdam, replacing air france or klm..or starting extra flight their..so getting back to ryanair i think they will be taking over the sun routes from exeter , alic, faro, pmi and extra malaga, the rummers around the airport say their looking at barc, tenerife, paphos and building it up to a bounmouth size op... What are people hearing.

The FR website show them continuing at 2x weekly for the winter although not bookable as of yet

Their winter schedules are starting to be released. I wouldn't be surprised to see tenerife pop up as a winter route.

Just checked their website and only showing twice per week next winter from EXT to both Malaga and Naples.

Don't forget that TUI normally have Tenerife covered three times per week from EXT during the winter months.

In the current climate I can only see Ryanair operating flights from EXT to Tenerife to the detriment of a another South West airport, using resources based at TFS or elsewhere....

I take it you mean Malaga and Malta. I'd be very surprised if Naples was operated through the winter.

Ryanair begins its EXT operation tomorrow, with the first of its 2 x weekly flights to/from Malta. Looking at the seat selector the outbound load appears to be very healthy, albeit the seat selector is only a broad brush stroke indication of loads and of course does not indicate the important figure - the yield.

Nevertheless, with 170 of the 189 seats on tomorrow's outbound so far occupied that's a load factor of 90%.

Interestingly, it doesn't appear to have affected Ryanair's Bristol-Malta route yet because tomorrow's and Thursday's BRS-MLA are both sold out, as is the 9 April too. From May BRS-MLA will see the return of Air Malta and Thomas Cook as well as the 3 x weekly Ryanair. That might give a better indication of the way the new EXT (and CWL) Ryanair Malta flights affect its BRS-MLA route. Ryanair probably would not be too concerned if it lost some of of its BRS-MLA passengers to its EXT and CWL services as the overall numbers would be up, but it would not want to lose them to the other airlines.

On Wednesday the first Ryanair Malaga and and Naples flights begin, with thus far 142 and 105 seats respectively shown as occupied. Should be up on that a bit by this time tomorrow.

BRS-MLA passengers to its EXT and CWL services as the overall numbers would be up, but it would not want to lose them to the other airlines.

At the moment CWL is seeing a seat count of 156 for MLA from the seat selector so hopefully this means that both services from get off to a good start!

Do we know for certain that Ryanair is looking to take on the sun routes?

As for Malta, the interesting thing is that the new CWL and EXT Ryanair MLA flights this week have gone out nearly full and the BRS flights were sold out some time ago. So what would those on the EXT and CWL flights have done had they not been available? No room at BRS so it would suggest that most of the CWL and EXT passengers are 'new' to the routes and airline and many might not have flown at all without an EXT and CWL opportunity.

If that is the case it's encouraging for EXT and CWL if they can operate without diluting the airline's BRS operation on the same routes. EXT-AGP yesterday was full or as good as, as were the Ryanair BRS-AGP and the two easyJet BRS-AGP flights yesterday. If this pattern persists there must be every chance that Ryanair will add more sun routes/rotations from CWL and EXT.
