Local Press "Yorkshire Evening Post" have now picked up on the fact that Ryanair are axing 6x routes and reducing the base from 3 to 2 aircraft

When times are hard and there is a lack of aircraft you would naturally take an aircraft away from a base that has a poor infrastructure such as its terminal and of course a challenging runway during the winter months where costly delays and diverts can occur. I will say it again, its staring us in the face, but until something big style is done reg LBAs infrastructure it will only get worse. Ryanair, tui, tcx etc
You are like a stuck record fight2win. Every time anything negative crops up, you come up with the same argument. You have no idea why Ryanair opted to reduce the LBA base yet you speak as if you do. Don't just guess and claim it as fact.

I have said numerous times in the past, if we all had the same opinion there would be no need for this forum. We all have different opinions and even if we don't always agree we can agree to disagree. We have some fantastic characters on this site and it would be incredibly dull without them. What's more is I think we all essentially want a larger better Leeds Bradford airport serving our region.

I think unfortunately in situations like this people are always going to blame the airport rather than the airline it always seems to be the airport that gets the negativity not the airline.

Just as a point of interest - Prestwick has had its Ryanair winter operations cut to just 11 flights per week by Ryanair (for the same stated reasons) and has lost 3 routes (they didn't have as many as LBA in the first place). Down to just 1 flight per week to Tenerife too. It is stated to be the lowest ever at Prestwick and this follows the previous closure of the Glasgow base in favour of Prestwick. For many in Western Scotland it leaves them with the trek to Edinburgh or down to England.

Im like a stuck record, just like LBA then! can someone just please explain to me why airlines are pulling out and cutting routes like never seen before from our airport which is in the 3rd largest English city and 4th biggest populated area in the uk yet all other airports are gaining services, pax figures going up. there is something seriously going wrong at LBA!

An industry in turmoil for a variety of reasons - over capacity, a grounded brand new plane, Brexit uncertainty, impending recession. Something had to give. LBA hasn't got off too badly. Yes it's not ideal. "All" airports growing! Not sure that's quite true. LBA is still far far better than it used to be, even though we all know it could be better. I am as disappointed as anyone with the current situation but not downhearted. Our Red and Silver friends seem very astute at picking up where others have left - let's see what happens and not judge too quickly

LBA suffers like BHX does from the growth of MAN, so many people from the Midlands going up the M6

bhx suffers basicly because its in the middle between the London airports and Manchester. In reality though every populated area east of the pennines should be a customer for LBA. Picture this...Imagine if LBA had a 3000metre long flat runway, modern terminal bit like say Alicante and plenty of space/land. Do you think we would be having these continuous forum chats on this subject that quite franky have gone on for decades? I don't think so! Its a total lack of ambition, no forward planning from an airport that's decades behind! I love checking the mancs forums as things actually happen!

I wonder how we would get a 3000 m flat runway at LBA? I would suggest it is actually completely impossible, so pointless even imagining that.

BHX has got a 3,050m flat (ish) runway and we still struggle to attract long haul, I agree about being stuck in between London and Manchester and I do think if LHR R3 is not built then BHX will benefit.
As for Leeds it was basically built in the wrong place !

yes you struggle to get long haul but you still got 12.5m pax rolling in through the doors!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
