According to a post on the other forum Iberia are looking to increase frequency at MAN possibly utilizing the BHX aircraft.

This isn't quite true. Yes, MAN is being increased by 1 weekly, but, this was put on sale a long time ago so as far as I'm aware, the MAN increase is nothing to do with BHX being cut.

Hi there all, as I have said before, the reason why airlines leave Birmingham Airport after just 12-15 months, is that once the deal with the airport comes up for review, the airline knows that if they were paying say £6.00 per tonne, so mtow is 400 tonnes, then using times table, £6.00 x 400 = £2,400, but once deal ends, it's £12.00 per tonne, well that's £12.00x 400 tonnes = £4,800, that's a lot more than they were originally paying. That's why they then decided, too expensive, then pull out. Andyc

except Andy, Iberia Express have been operating from BHX since the end of March 2016!

I am sure it's related to BHX's pricing and costs, but what can the airport do, when the 7 local councils that own the airfield are not prepared to lower the costs, have you ever know a council ever lower costs? They don't care about airlines or routes, they just want their large profit from the airport every year! It's a catch 22 situation.

The rate at which BHX is bleeding airlines and routes there won’t be any profits to be had and it’s certainly nothing to do with passenger numbers as to why Iberia are pulling out. How the management think BHX can pick up the slack from no third runway at LHR is quite honestly baffling.

This is certainly not good news. Losing flag carriers is a blow to BHX. Perhaps an opportune moment for someone like easyjet or even Jet2 to step in ?. I can't see Vueling being interested as they are in the same group. Maybe Ryanair will increase flights, although not everyones favourite.

Reported by @seanm1997 on Twitter tonight that Iberia Express will cease their Madrid flights on 30th June.

Another flag carrier to leave Birmingham this year, airport costs to high again no doubt?
Yep my flight is August is cancalled.... was doing LHR-MAD-MAD-BHX looks like I need to look at another way of getting home. Yes I could take Ryanair but the time is crap 7am. I booked my flight times so I could get enough sleep get up make way to the gate. I might make my way back into LHR. I will look into it once I get back from NYC.

Potentially Iberia is quitting for the usual reason why airlines pull out. one-way BHX-MAD on 30th June only £42.

Maybe we are getting a new competitor on the route & Iberia are jumping ship early? Not like this hasn’t happened before

You won't know the real reason for the cut. It's qui

Maybe they'll pass the route onto Air Europa?

And we all keep thinking why the likes of TAP, Finnair, Air Baltic keep passing us by, we haven't got a cat in hells chance of getting these airlines.

We are all living in cloud cuckoo land.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
