Looks like the Ryanair Leeds/Bradford - Riga route may come to an early end. The is 4 more flights left of this winter season to operate but Latvia's Government has just announced its going to stop all International air traffic as from Tuesday, March 17th

However, and unsurprisingly, they don't mention cancellations and refunds for flights already booked to already 'closed' destinations nor do they point out that the 'new' fare is likely to be much higher than the original. As far as I am aware they haven't cancelled anything yet meaning these people who have aleady bought tickets are, it seems, not being given much choice.

There have already been moans and groans on social media about new dates being considerably more expensive coupled with much Ryanair name calling due to the way they operate. Nobody ever learns do they?

They would be moaning and groaning if their bar or restaurant in Benidorm for example had gone under due to covid-19!

Looks like Ryanair might have to stop the Leeds - Malta flights tomorrow. As the Airport at Luqa has just issued the following NOTAM.

'BASED ON A DECISION TAKEN BY THE MALTA HEALTH AUTHORITIES ALL PASSENGER FLIGHTS INBOUND TO MALTA ARE TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED. FLIGHTS DEPARTING BEFORE 2359 UTC ON THE 2OTH MARCH 2020 ARE EXEMPTED. THE BAN DOES NOT APPLY TO FERRY FLIGHTS, CARGO FLIGHTS, HUMANITARIAN FLIGHTS AND REPATRIATION FLIGHTS.
MALTESE AUTHORITIES MAY IN SPECIAL CASES EXEMPT INDIVIDUAL FLIGHTS.’

Ryanair grounding 80% of fleet between Wednesday March 18th and Tuesday 24t, As of Wednesday 19th most if not all aircraft will be grounded until May 1st at the earliest.

I know all businesses, including airlines need to maximise their income/revenue but stating unrealistic start dates is equally not the way forward. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing more I would like than airlines to be able to resume services in May, and I/we shouldn't be saying they won't but we have to be brutally realistic about the situation we find ourselves in and social distancing will be here until at the very least the end of May, so cramming 189 people into a B737-800 before that date is just not achievable. Unless some form of being allowed to carry one pax on each side of every row, e.g. 1A, 1F etc. or something similar becomes allowed then that would give some revenue. But you still have social distancing within the airport building and general boarding to manage. Not impossible I suppose, but a major headache. We need to defeat COVID19 in one go and not risk starting a second wave. This situation hurts!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
