Watching FR24, KLM1435 (AMS - BHX) has carried out the strangest holding pattern I've ever seen. Now appears to be heading north to MAN. TOM 7675 from LGW holding to the west. RYR 1122 from TFS has been holding over Hereford has now left the hold and is heading NE (EMA?).
FR24 is giving BHX weather as 1000m along with 'SN' which I presume is snow.

TOM 7675 also appears to be now going to EMA.
Looking on Windy.com, at snow depth, it is saying 'Birmingham 15'. If that's 15cm snow, that's quite a lot!
[EDIT] I think it's meant to read 1.5cm.

Kevin

It snowed quite heavily here for a couple of hours. I'm about a mile away and I'd say 1.5 - 2cm would be about right.

If you look at the GFS "10 day" accumulations and compare to the 5 days ones, we can see that three's an awful lot of snow that potentially could fall from Wednesday (MAN is showing 7.4cm going to 18cm, BHX 2.5cm to 7.1cm)

Forecasters are certainly hinting at further 'significant ' snowfall later this week, particularly further north. Also a ' weather expert' interviewed on radio today said a 60% chance of a more severe cold spell later this month. A mini beast from the East mentioned.

Even a mini freeze is the last thing we want at the moment. More falls, ergo broken limbs, to put yet more pressure on already grossly overburdened hospitals, not to mention the difficulty that some elderly people would experience trying to get to medical centres for vaccinations. Even the distribution of vaccines would suffer if roads are snow affected.

I hate snow in the UK. We are simply unable to cope with it.

Not able or perhaps forgotten how to manage? Reconsidering priorities like keeping car journeys to those with capable vehicles and those winter driving skills might prevent unnecessary accidents. Slips and trips can be avoided but needs the willpower to stay indoors, familiar territory given Covid restrictions. I certainly cannot see oil or that banana skin hidden under the snow so I do not take the risk. I learnt my lesson following a Trimalleolar fracture a few years ago which still causes significant difficulties.

An hours heavy snowfall Saturday evening caused chaos on the roads in Birmingham, purely because the council contractors hadn't gritted the roads. The likelihood of the heavy snow was well mentioned on earlier TV forecasts, but still was ignored.

According to the BBC, a private jet that was inbound BHX was escorted to STN by Typhoons after it lost radio contact. The Typhoons went supersonic in order to intercept the jet. I heard the sonic boom. I'd always imagined them to sound like a sharp crack, but this was more like a bomb going off. To the point that I was expecting to hear sirens shortly afterwards.
I remember looking at my watch to see it was 13:03 and I heard an aircraft immediately afterwards.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
