Could CWL struggle to see the return of a full KLM schedule this winter?
At the moment it looks like for the rest of November and December Amsterdam will be 5 weekly with no flights on Tuesdays and Wednesdays bar a few changes for Xmas and New year and then in January it goes to 6 weekly with no flights on Tuesdays. Default 20 weekly for February and beyond but I can't see February be any better except maybe daily? The less frequency makes it obviously less attractive as a hub route. Hopefully we'll see the return of 20 weekly for the summer. Fingers crossed!

Looking at KLMs booking engine and it now appears that for February and March (extra 6 nations flights for France game) Amsterdam will be 1 daily flight with a 17.25 departure.

It's a shame it's not better, but let's hope more frequencies from March on.
Default 20 weekly from April but with international travel the way it is and the route only daily in March I would be very surprised if AMS wasn't daily as well. And without the multiple daily flights AMS is a lot less effective as a hub route especially for the USA.

KLMs Amsterdam route saw 1748 passengers use it in December. They operated 23 departures in December using a mix of E175 and E190 aircraft averaging 38 passengers a flight.
With places like Australia starting to lift travel restrictions then hopefully that'll mean we'll see Amsterdam as a route start to return to it's 3 daily departure pre pandemic norm but i suspect it could take a while for that to happen (and i suspect it could be a year) as currently KLM are to operate 5 weekly flights (no flights on Tuesday and Wednesdays) until the end of April. Though they have added extra flights for the Wales v France 6 nations game with the 10.15 departure being reinstated between the 10/3/22 and 14/3/22.

Very few people use KLM or AMS to connect to flights to Australia as it often means at least 2 connections. ME3 from the regions or LHR with 1 connection (excluding the QF direct PER flight) as the big players in the Australia market.
KL tends to do quite well on USA and Asia connections though.

Flew KLM to Australia 2 years ago and the extra stop didn't make much difference as it allowed me to fly from LBA (Local).
Until the pandemic arrived my wife and I visited Australia most years for VFR purposes.

We looked at KLM from our local airport but the length of the overall journey time and at least two en-route aircraft changes saw us quickly discounting the idea.

Living about 105 minutes from LHR by road meant that was a much better user-friendly option for us. We have been happy with Emirates down the years. We looked at Qatar from CWL as we live about 40 minutes nearer CWL than LHR but the very long time at Doha between flights on the days we had in mind put us off that idea.

I suppose the lesson from this and Seasider's post is that some people are happy to use KLM if it means transiting their local airport whilst others look for the increased choice from a nearby larger airport.

I hope for KLM that even if their Australia bound passengers will no doubt be small that with such a country like Australia which had such severe restrictions is a good omen that travel will start to return to normality.

The KL1060 10.15am departure is operating again on Sunday 13th, as well as this Friday, I wonder if it is to become a regular departure a few times a week, before returning to pre Covid three daily.

Could be down to the Six nations? Aren't Wales playing Scotland on that weekend? First home Six nations game with a crowd for a while with international travel allowed so possibly Welsh people living abroad could be using it as an a chance to visit home. Hence some extra flights from KLM because the demand is there.

Looking ahead at KLM's schedule and it appears to be that through April the route will be 5 weekly no flights, Tuesday and Wednesday with just an evening departure. From 27th April the route will be 6 weekly with no flights on Tuesdays, from 11th May then daily flights will resume all in the evenings. From the 24th May the overnighting aircraft will return with the exception of Sundays and Mondays so there will be 2 daily departures at 06.05 and 17.15. From the 6th June the overnighting aircraft for Monday resumes as well so the route will be 13 weekly. The default 20 weekly resumes from 20th June but obviously that is subject to change.

Looking at KLMs website and the time for the morning departure which resumes on the 24th May has changed from 06.05 too 05.50.

Looking at KLM between June and August it looks like the 17.15 departure has been replaced with a 10.30am departure except Saturdays where it's a 17.30 departure.

Looking ahead at KLMs schedule and for September and October it looks like CWL will have 13 weekly departures with a mix of E175s and E190s.
Monday to Friday
KL1058 CWL-AMS 05.50-08.15
KL1065 AMS-CWL 15.25-15.45

Well this didn't last long. Route has been reduced to 13 weekly departures with an 06.00 departure and 17.10 departure Monday to Saturday and a 17.25 departure on Sundays for November. Goes back to 20 weekly in December.
So this has been extended into December and the New Year now, personally considering restrictions at Schipol i'd expect that it'll be extended into January, February and March.
