There appears to be a group of councillors within Liverpool City Council who do not want to see any further expansion at Liverpool Airport.
That seems to be the case with most airports these days.

I wonder if in the years to come society will look back and regard this attitude as short-sightedness in the way that we now view the 'Beeching Axe' and the widespread dismantling of tram networks pre and post World War 2.

Further to my last post, I note a lengthy current discussion regarding LPL taking place in another aviation website forum.

The suggestion in that discussion that the airport has plans for a runway extension seems to be untrue but is there anything in the talk of a 'history' between Aer Lingus and the airport?

Given Liverpool's close historical connections with Ireland there must be a lot of demand for traffic between the Merseyside area and the island of Ireland.

The agenda often seems to be from those who are not that well informed. Whilst the environment is of course of huge concern, aviation is changing due to that very reason. Better to work with it, than knee jerk.

new £2m investment into passenger facilities at Liverpool John Lennon Airport will see the creation of 200 jobs. Tony McDonough reports

Liverpool John Lennon Airport is to invest £2m into its passenger facilities in a move that will see the creation of 200 new jobs.

LJLA will this year see its busiest summer season since before the pandemic in 2019 with flights to more than 60 destinations. May will see the launch of the new Lufthansa Frankfurt service that will offer a host on onward global destinations.

Airlines such as easyJet, Ryanair and Wizz Air will start their summer schedules at the end of March and work is well under way across parts of the airport terminal to enhance the shopping and dining experience for both departing and arriving passengers.

In the departure lounge, airport food and beverage operator SSP, which already operates a range of units to cater for passengers at the airport, will shortly be opening a new Upper Crust freshly baked baguette specialist store.

Fashion sports retailer JD Sports is upgrading and expanding its unit to offer a wider range of goods. Popular high street bakery chain Greggs will shortly be opening a store at the airport for the first time, with a unit near the arrivals area along with a new WHSmith unit that includes a Marks & Spencer’s Food To Go offer for the first time.

Anumber of existing retailers will be re-opening in time for the Easter holiday period and the increase in flights. These include designer clothing retailer Traveller and restaurant brand Frankie and Benny’s, as well as several other food and beverage areas.

LJLA will also be introducing an enhanced parking offer for passengers with a new ‘Meet and Greet’ valet parking facility, enabling passengers to drop off their vehicles close to the terminal. Airport staff will park their car for them on site at the airport and then returning them ready for collection when passengers return.

These new facilities will create a further 200 jobs at the airport, which is in addition to over 200 vacancies that a host of employers at the airport recently filled, following a recruitment day held in January, attended by more than 750 people.

Lucy O’Shaughnessy, LJLA’s commercial director said: “It’s great to be opening units back up again and adding some fantastic new brands to the mix including Greggs and Upper Crust and we are really looking forward to welcoming back our regular passengers and hopefully many new ones too.

“These great new additions combined with the return of many of our popular existing shopping and food and drink areas will mean passengers have an even greater choice of quality passenger facilities in time for Easter and the summer season ahead, here at the region’s faster, easier, friendlier airport.”

It would be helpful if there was a machine at the airport to top up / purchase Saveaway ticket on the Metrocard (aka Walrus).
Since the Spar closed, they took the Paypoint terminal out and the new store in arrivals (WH Smith) doesn't have a Paypoint machine.

Yes it would, a machine would bem useful also for people to buy bus/ rail tickets. You can do that online but you still need a ticket for the bus. I'm not up to speed on what the city region mayor is doing but I understand he wants a London style transport system where you can use your debit card.

Cheeky dig by Liverpool airport social media team

Yes, couldn't help but smirk at that tweet!

However, I don't personally fly from Liverpool often as Manchester offers more variety in terms of destinations.
I've seen a lot of the tweets recently that Liverpool have put out ref the new Lufthansa service and how you can fly to lots of places with a one stop in Frankfurt, e.g. Santorini...if I want to fly there (like I did last October, 3hrs 30mins on average), then I would fly direct with 2/3 of the airlines from Manchester that offer the service.

I wish Liverpool and Lufthansa well with the new service though, I'm personally confident enough that they can make it work from both North West airports.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
