I don't ever buy anything on the aircraft and only buy the minimum I can at the airport. Everything is way overpriced and/or poor quality. Turn up and get on the plane, that's my plan!
Same here, turn up not too early or late, all belongings confined to one small bag eg mob, passport, so no chance of dropping or leaving something behind, straight thru duty free and past the shops, bars etc and try to pick a seat (if there is any) mid point in the departure lounge preferably next to screen to keep an eye on dep gate. Gates called up and straight on the aircraft, end of!

The airport lounge an integral part of our holiday. 2 hours watching the airport movements with a couple of drinks and some good food is my perfect start to our trip. I realise that we are fortunate, but I will pay the current price to visit the lounge and get our holiday off to a good start.

I've said before that in terms of value for money the airport lounges don't do it....but to those who use it, it clearly is...There are many and varied reasons why people use or don't use them and all are valid...We are all individual and better for that....

Mind you I must admit to wanting to try it once regardless but so far timings haven't suited us.

I suppose a higher price makes it more exclusive.

I suppose if you are paying that much some might expect something a little better. Less kids, quieter, more relaxed. Especially if travelling on business.
I agree. A business traveller may have changed their habits with regards to who they might fly with but they are still likely to want to use their laptop in a quiet corner of the airport where they can plug their phone in to charge and have a last minute meeting before their flight.

Before I jacked it in I flew all over the world in business and found airport lounges a necessity especially when travelling LH so I could participate in conf calls and do work. I did find over the last few years it became extremely difficult to do any of this as most lounges had become extremely busy and more popular with families making it difficult to find a quiet area. I know a lot of more former colleagues still travel on business regularly, some of whom use LBA and they do use the 1432 lounge primarily becuase it given them a quiet space…..it also helps they can claim it back on expenses if necessary 😀

Good food?…..when was the last time you went in there? I went in the 1432 lounge with my Priority Pass plus £15 in March and the food was pretty average bordering on poor.

Lounges are not what they were…in the good old days they were really special.

I suppose like the requirement for air bridges if a new full service operator were to come to LBA then maybe the airport would consider adapting the lounge offering to suit the needs and requirements of the airline customers it serves. Clearly for the moment at least, the airport is catering for what it sees as its core passenger base which is currently holiday flights.

Unfortunately paupers Like us can’t afford the posh lounge have to make do with a meal deal from boots and a paper from Smiths role on m more Ryan air flights with free lounge access

I used to fly to London and back every week on BMI, must have been late noughties. The lounge was quite small with no windows, I remember it was loosely segregated for BMI and KLM. Great for working in- rarely saw any kids or holidaymakers. After that I used BA, the lounge they used was very light and airy with great views and a huge mural.of Yorkshire scenes on the wall. Again no distractions. I assume this lounge is still in operattion but presumably repurposed for holidaymakers. These days though we normally buy sandwiches at Bondgate Bakery in Otley and eat them at the airport or on the plane.

Came through LBA at 4am today for the 6am GRO departure. Given it was peak morning I was amazed that security was showing less then 10 minutes - we had fast track and just went straight through! I’ve not seen it working that efficiently for some time. There looked to be a sizeable queue at the gate for the Bucharest flight so it seems to be proving popular already.

Out this morning on the 6am Ryanair to Girona. Security Q was all the way into Hall A. Display said 30mins and it was about 40. New scanners meant everything left in the case. A breeze! I bought return flights, hire car and apartment for about half what Jet2 wanted without a car. Jet2 flights alone were nearly 3 times the cost of FR. Friendly low fares my ar...

How many scanners were in use?

How many scanners were in use?
2 in the main security hall. Plus another in a separate room for outsize and wheelchairs(I think?) The main2 were the new sort plus new person scanners and some sort of foot scanner as well. I got selected for this, put your foot on the machine and a big green tick mark shows up, repeat for the other foot. No idea what it's detecting.(explosives I guess just like the old swabs were)

That must be why the queue was so long. I believe the plan is to have all 4 operational by the end of this month. Dont suppose you saw any displays illustrating the extension- giving hope to those queueing?

Flight back fro Girona was just as none eventful in terms of LBA. Landed at just past midnight- parked at the remote stand so hand the long walk to arrivals through the tunnel. Heard a few moans and groans about that. Short queue at Border Control, luggage was already waiting at the carousel. Straight down to free pick up and Uber ordered. Back home in Menston 45 minutes after landing! I e be been waiting longer just to pick up my bags at other airports!
The only issue we did have was the transfer taxi we booked through Ryanair decided he wanted to pick us up 5hrs before departure! Made him wait but even then we arrived at Girona a good hour before check in opened

We arrived back from FUE this afternoon to LBA and rather wished we had`nt...Very pleasant, on time,Jet2 flight back. The place was heaving and obviously way beyond capacity and ability judging by LBA management.
We went onto stand 21C to wait until a Ryanair finished loading and pushed back so we could take the stand. We disembarked ok and the bus, driven by an airport fireman, took us to arrivals..WOW what a queue, stood outside.People with many disabilities, including my wife who was in agony and people with children left in a long queue outside. Not one employee of the airport anywhere to be seen.No one to assist using the lift, no one to advice, represent the airport to people massively inconvenienced by managements attempt to get a quart into a pint pot.
The comments towards LBA were very negative and understandably so....When we got to Border Force they were the jewels in the crown...Every desk manned and the organising, normally done by LBA staff was being done by the senior on duty officer of Border Force assisted by 2 Jet2 ground staff...FFS..
At no point anywhere was any member of LBA staff present.People were left to `follow my leader` It was appalling..Were they all on strike/holiday or just hiding. Where we the so called management???...

Well its time the lazy buggers got their sad arses off their chairs and get down and greet the people who pay their wages ,help assist and reassure. They know the pinch points and they know its here and now..Joe Public isnt interested in 2026...Their apparant abrigation of their duties shames them and make me wonder whether to avoid them in the future..
Sorry its a rant, but I make no apologies for it..We and others suffered today because of an epic fail that shoulkd never have happened...God knows what its going to be like in peak....It took longer than Heathrow today..

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
