While looking this up I also noticed that Flybe has a new connection from CWL. Madrid via CDG with one hell of a layover! Think the shortest was 5 hours! Also Nuremberg and Zurich.

that sounds like its tied in with air france code share, change plane in cdg to a air france plane.there wont be a very great take up for that service.

Yeah it is. Its also a bit pricey so you are probably right, doubt there will be many takers for it.

No flights or a reason.... LCY closes around 1pm Saturday and doesn't open till about 12.30 on Sunday!

I didn't know that. What's the reason for LCY closing?

Berlin Tegel

Harping back to this route which commences in the autumn with one of the two weekly rotations now brought forward by a month, I will not be in the least surprised if it's not increased to 3 or 4 x weekly for next summer.

Berlin is a fantastic city to explore for a few days with so much to see and do in and around the city and its suburbs. Public transport - mainly U-Bahn and S-Bahn, although trams and buses also feature prominently - is first class and covers most of the metropolis.

When my wife and I visited Berlin a few years ago we stayed in a modern hotel in East Berlin off Frankfurter Allee, the major thoroughfare where the communists parades were held in the Soviet era. The hotel had been converted from a former factory.

I can thoroughly recommend Berlin to anyone thinking of trying out the new Flybe route there.

Hopefully it'll be more successful than Dusseldorf! I do wonder if this is part of a broader airport
strategy to get Cardiff and the surrounding areas connected to the major cites in western europe. At the moment there is Munich Berlin (future) Dusseldorf (ending) Milan Paris Edinburgh and Dublin with Flybe and Amsterdam and Barcelona with KLM and Vueling. Future targets may be Madrid Rome Brussels and Prague and maybe Frankfurt? That would give CWL links to most of western europe's capitals and a connection in eastern europe. Hopefully Berlin will become a steady route for Flybe.

MUC was one of the original routes when Flybe commenced its CWL base in June last year.

It operated 5 x weekly (M, W, Th, F, Sa). Some thought that a bit ambitious for such a new route, especially with a 118-seat aircraft. Last winter it dropped to 3 x weekly with the Th and F rotations cut.

So a slight drop this winter from the 4 x weekly of the current summer is really just following on last year's pattern and, as you intimate, probably a sensible and realistic move.

Seems to make sense, as of yet MUC hasn't really taken off, then again with the CAA becoming later and later with the monthly figures doesn't really give a chance to see how it's performing, although throughout the winter months it was fairly static, a few signs of recovery into March and then a drop into April, with only I believe once or twice has it risen over the 50% LF mark, hopefully over the course of the summer and into the winter it will gain some momentum.

It could be that with routes like Munich there is demand but that the aircraft itself is too big and a 80 seater would be more appropriate and that the schedule would be around 3 to 4 times a week. Berlin may also be the same but the new codeshare with Air Berlin will help boost the numbers and you have to wonder whether the out flights are healthy but it's the return flights that are low because of lack of German born passengers or local awareness. Hopefully the codeshare with Air Berlin may help (if it comes back) to revitalise Dusseldorf and may also lead to Hamburg in the future.
Great news for Flybe on the codeshare!

Just a bit speculation but with Blue Islands possibly doing a Guernsey route in the future and the fact that they have 50 seater aircraft could they base an aircraft at Cardiff and do a double daily LCY and a daily CWL-JER-GCI-CWL and possibly another route in the evening. Wondering if Blue Islands can do an intra British route?

I take it you are suggesting these routes would be a Flybe franchise.

I don't think that Blue Islands has done intra-UK routes either in its present form or in its previous incarnations as Le Cocq and Rockhopper. Although the Channel Islands are not strictly part of the EU they are closely associated so may be able to operate UK domestic routes or other wholly EU routes for that matter. However, I am not aware of the definitive answer to this.

Whether they would is another matter of course.

Yeah under the Flybe franchise.

Yeah under the Flybe franchise.
Never say never about most things in aviation because the industry never seems to stop coming up with surprises, but your speculation seems unlikely unless Flybe makes a deal with Blue Islands that the latter cannot refuse having themselves been the recipient of a generous subsidy from CWL to push it through. As I say...........unlikely.

Yes and i do have to wonder that as far as CWL is concerned for Flybe if as long as 2 of their E190s are occupied then from there point of view CWL achieves there objective. Be interesting to see what happens when the E190s go back and what aircraft CWL will get and how many seats in total they will have.

I think that CWL and Flybe have a ten-year agreement so there must be some plan to replace the E195s at some point. No doubt there are clauses allowing the agreement to cease under specific circusmstances but the intention is clearly to be at CWL for the long term.

For many of CWL's routes the E175 would be the better fit, giving very good load factors without necessarily increasing the actual loads by very much from what they are now.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?

I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
