Don't fall out of bed.

Had a kind of sad experience last week when my girlfriends business partner came round with her son age 11. Asked him if he had enjoyed going to Farnborough a couple of weeks before and he said yes and reeled off a list of things they had seen. Impressed with his knowledge and enthusiasm we had a quite a long conversation about aviation and my die cast collection and the relevance of it to my own childhood. The sad bit was I think it was the only time in my life that I've regretted not having kids.:(

Well, now for something totally off topic...
The small village that I live in (Willingham, Cambridgeshire) is holding a 'Village Show'. One of the Photography categories, is 'People/Portraits' (unfortunately, there is no category for Aeroplanes/Airports ). As such, I was thinking of entering three or four of the following -

I just thought that I'd ask for your highly regarded opinions - or just (hopefully), enjoy the photos.
I hope that I'm not breaking any rules by posting these - any proceeds will go to charity.

How do you choose from 14 excellent photos. They're all supurb, they really are. I'll come back later today to give you my top three when I've had time to look again.

They really ARE excellent photo's, no doubt - really sharp and great control of the depth of field!
In my opinion, a portrait (as I would call all of these) should tell the viewer something of the character of the subject and I think that numbers 8,12 and 13 do this best.
Just my two penneth, for what it's worth...

This is proving very difficult. I've viewed them all again and I'm really struggling to decide which one does it for me.

It's hard to be critical of any of your photos. I'm picking 4,5 and 11 with 11 very slightly ahead for the depth of field as Barry puts it.

Thanks for all of your comments on my photos. Looking at the entry form again, only two entries may be submitted per class per person which seems a bit mean. It's only 50p per entry, so it wouldn't break the bank to allow a few more.
I could sneak another one in under 'Any other print - black and white or sepia'.

They really ARE excellent photo's, no doubt - really sharp and great control of the depth of field!

Thanks, Barry. That's down to my beloved Nikon 70-200mm F2.8 lens.

Cheers

Kevin

Now I have to confess that I'm not 100% sure that I saw a trident at Birmingham View attachment 3665 in the hybrid scheme.

One of my favourite colour schemes, although I prefer it with the red BEA lettering to British Airways. Come to think of it, it's basically the colour scheme of the first flight I ever went on - that being a BEA Airtours Comet 4B. Possibly why I like the scheme so much.

Glad you're a Nikon man too Kevin, I just got back from the Boardmasters festival in Newquay and, to a man (or woman) it was Canon everywhere!

Fantastic pictures Kevin.

It's very difficult to choose as they're all brilliant but my favourites are 2, 10 and 11, but as said they're all great :)

Yes I agree that the BEA scheme was very nice with the red upper surfaces of the wings and tail. Unfortunately it was a year or so too early for me too include in the collection as the transition to British Airways had just taken place when i started visiting Elmdon which is a real shame because a BEA super one eleven has just been released which looks stunning. I did have my first flight on a BEA viscount but can only remember playing with a toy car on the table.

Nikon cameras, I have three Nikon's film cameras that sit redundant in my camera bag.

Cannot get the film, and even if, cannot find processing services.

I have FE, FM, and F3 bodies in working order and lenses that connect well.

I love film as opposed to digital. Film photography requires work whilst digital is so autonomous that the result is sterile.

Blimey, When I used to go down to the Elmdon terminal as a kid, I remember the 5-times daily Trident 1-e on the Paris run (G-AVYE I think - sad remembering the registration - it was burned into the back of my eyelids!
Would that have been pre 1975?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
