The ship has been sinking steadily for at least the last twenty years under various political guises so I wouldn't expect it to sink any quicker under whoever runs the country after the next general election. For me, most of the political parties are singing off the same hymn sheet so far as economics go. Farage and his merry men say what people want to here but there is evidence to show a withdrawal from the EU would be suicide economically and for crime prevention. The main pulling power for many is the parties stance on immigration. All very well and good stopping migration from the EU for people who actually want to work here in the UK but it doesn't stop the boat load of immigrants from outside the EU queuing up at Calais waiting to come here to claim political asylum which is actually the main concern for the majority of people in this country.

All the talk about sorting the runway out is not being negative at all, far from it. We want the airport to achieve and make considerably more progress than it currently is doing.

Might as well get the ball rolling before too much Christmas spirit (whiskey, vodka etc) gets in the way!!

PIA back on Islamabad with a B777/200
HOP daily ER145 service to Paris CDG
Eurowings daily to Frankfurt
Extrajet daily to Copenhagen and Antwerp
Austrian bask on Innsbruck for Winter 2016/17
Citywings daily to Isle of Man
BA upgrade to A320's
Direct bus service to York again
Get the diggers out and build some more stands

wondered how long it would take you to get this annual wish list running "Bigman"

- British Airways to finally upgrade to 4x daily with night stopper.
- Jet2 will hopefully add some new routes when the new Boeing 737-800NG's start to arrive in September.
- Monarch hopefully add New routes with 3rd based aircraft or add Gibraltar using a w-legged aircraft from another base.
- Ryanair to some extra flights to Eastern Europe, More flights to Poland
- Extrajet get off the ground and get excellent passenger figures on its routes to Copenhagen and Antwerp.

Also Really hoping the airport can also add the following new routes
Berlin = Easyjet or of Jet2
Paris Cdg = Cityjet or Air France Hop
Madrid = Iberia Express or Monarch
Innsbruck = Austria Arrows or Monarch

This is easy. I'll just refer to my 2007 wishlist because it's exactly the same.

Merry Christmas Leeds forumers! :D

British Airways to night stop for an early Heathrow departure

Flybe to get it together and bring us some routes that aren't Aberdeen or Southampton. Same goes for Eastern. Stop squabbling children!

Monarch to get stronger and bigger. I think it's a real feather in LBA's cap to have Monarch on board

A more comprehensive ski, lakes and mountains programme from all operators

Twice daily Paris from Air France

Some new German and Scandinavian routes

Thomas Cook to return

Weekly summer Ljubljana service from Jet2 or easyJet

Extrajet to come up with the goods or go away

Not arsed about PIA. More trouble than they're worth IMO

And not forgetting lots more parking stands, CAT 2 ILS on RW14, surface movement radar etc

Let's see.

2017 is sure to be a challenging year for the aviation industry as a whole with a number of previously unforeseen challenges the UK faces because of Brexit. Whatever the medium to long term brings, the next few years are likely to be interesting to say the least.

What if anything do you see happening at LBA in the year ahead? Do you think LBA will continue to see passenger growth or do you think the airport will hit turbulence? Will we see any further expansion or do you think airlines will consolidate their business?

Well, if all the extra Summer stuff comes off as planned, then we should see some steady growth this year. I would love to see some JCB's on site putting some more stands in for starters. It would also be nice to pick up a new operator or 2 (rumours of a new German operator seem to be doing the circuit at present).

dont hold your breath on that one!!
all the best for christmas and the new year.

Yes lbaspotter. Still a rumour at this stage unless you know otherwise.

More steady growth and two or three new operators would be nice - without losing any of what we have already. I would like to see Thomas Cook announce their return with a based aircraft during 2017 - even if it doesn't actually turn up until summer 2018.

Hope for confirmation of the new link road (Option A), new stands for another 6 aircraft at least and confirmatioin that the terminal extension will commence in winter 2017 - unless we all fall into dreamworld and they scrap the entire idea and build a new terminal!

Plans for a new arrivals hall with more room and more carousels and including provision of better arrangements to get people up into the terminal without having to lug their bags up stairs.

Commencement of the new enhanced entrance to the airport from the A658 - last I heard the plans were in the council planning department.

I have a good few far more expensive wishes for 2017 which I am certain will NOT happen so not much point in listing them.

I would also like to see Leeds City Council progress with option A with planning commencing in earnest during the first quarter of the New Year.

Plans push ahead for the new airport parkway with link road to the airport.

LBA announce planning amendments to its planned terminal development. Work to include a new arrivals baggage hall with 6 large carrousels. After a short deliberation by the council the commencement of the long awaited terminal expansion begins in the third quarter of 2017.

LBA commence building of new stands to allow for significant future growth.

Jet2 announce replacement for the aging 757 and opt for the new short field performance medium range airliner (still to be announced Boeing 75X)

(dreamland - Government announce building of new orbital motorway around Leeds and Bradford with spur road to LBA.)

(dreamland - I'd like to see the council announce plans to further extend option A airport link road to join the Pool in Wharfedale bypass and build the entire stretch as dualed road instead of single carriageway)

full

(dreamland - LBA decide to maximise runway usage by improving the RESA - As part of the airport link road the airport announce plans to increase the RESA to allow the threshold to be moved back to the start of the Concrete significantly improving the available runway length and for landing aircraft allowing for better use of CAT 3 autoland facilities.

Sydney airport Australia)

Just safe travel for us all, better employer/worker relationship, the new Flybe boss gets it policy right and finds a role for LBA and a few new routes/airlines from LBA and a steady growth in passenger numbers

My aspiration would be that local politicians of all persuasions wake up, get their act together, and campaign for a modern rapid transit solution for Leeds which includes a direct link to LBA.

I would like to see progress (however small ) on righting some of the many wrongs with the terminal, access and runway.

From a flight perspective:

· The BA night stopper to become a reality

· Thomas Cook to return as mention by WH earlier

· Thomson to fly more “w” into Leeds from other bases

· Tony Hallwood to state the airport is in discussion with one of the MEB3 with a view to a 787 service

· A regional airline to base a number of EMB175 to start flights to major European cities

· Ryanair to add 1 more 737-800 to the base

· More flights to be scheduled for departure between 7-9 pm

Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year

Whilst like everybody else, I hope not to lose any services, I'm hoping for 2017:

Vueling to stick around and go year round on BCN, with a chance for maybe 2018 to increase the frequency

Aurigny to continue on its success and maybe increase the frequency again..

Flybe to realise Newquay is successful and some more increase on that route.

Like everybody else BA night stop..

KLM to go back to x4 daily after disappointingly reducing to x3 daily again

Thomson to give us something other then 1 TFS for winter..

Jet2 to increase winter ops

and finally to see what Eurowings can hopefully produce for us!

cant see any major expansion on new routes or airlines for 2017 however if we can hold on to the routes and airlines we do have (which we seem to be)..

its worth noting that other airports have lost important links and airlines, so we could be in a lot worse position, these include:

EI from DSA (DUB)
EI from LPL (DUB)
EI from EMA (DUB)
EW from EMA (DUS)
VY from LPL (BCN)
CSA from LPL (PRG)

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
