Its worth pointing out right now that Thomas Cook Holidays are currently performing routine maintenance and during the period there website is unavailable.

It just maybe one to watch out on when the site comes back online later this afternoon.

Have just visited the website and all seems to be back online, however no LBA at the moment...

Does anyone remember a post on here a month or two back by someone who had just flown with TCX and who reported the captain announcing that this was a very important period for LBA and Thomas Cook. I wonder if all this is what he was referring to, and whether he knew what was going to be happening?

I just wish they would get it sorted. What with this and Leeds United's complete silence I can't sleep at night!!

Yes it was me on the way back from ACE & once landing the captain said that it is an important time for LBA & TCX which did sound reasonably positive and my flights too and from LBA was both full.

Lets hope it is good news. However, if there is anything more than one based Thomas Cook Airbus, where the hell are they going to park the aircraft! We are already 1x Jet2 757, 1x BA A319 and 1x Monarch (tbc of course) up on this year. Yet no more parking stands and no more gates.

I'm still putting my money on Thomas Cook mainly taking allocations on Jet2 with W legs on their most popular routes such as Palma, Antayla etc on Thomas Cook airlines own larger aircraft (757/767) which would certainly solve parking issues.

lbia, thats a very good point. However, we all know Jet2 are more then happy to move aircraft around for their respective departures. Such as yesterday at work i observed once the FR had gone ( :D ) they moved a 757 onto Airbridge, Stand 8(!?) for it's departure. Jet2's departure bank is well after the BA goes, FR's departure bank, and TCX will probably go.

I know this is not airline related or anything to do with flights from Leeds - Bradford Airport not been on sale for next summer yet, but Thomas Cook has just dropped a major bomb shell for its staff based at its Bradford offices.

As Thomas Cook have just announced that it is to close its Bradford office by March next year. The site is staffed by more than 500 people and the company has said that 468 will potentially be affected, with 69 moving to a new site.

Wasn't that building the centre of Bradford purpose built for Thomas Cook as well during the City's regeneration??

That is a big blow for the region as well as the City who are only just managing to attract some big names for the City's redevelopment!

If Thomas Cook did pull out of LBA as well, it would start to look like victimisation against Yorkshire and Bradford in particular. Its a real shame for the Bradford staff, despite the fact that there is another Thomas Cook office at Birkenshaw, where the 69 jobs are being transferred to.

Bradford has a history of this type of office, as Intasun used to also have their bookings office in the City. You have to wonder why close Bradford, and leave some of the others, such as Preston, Peterborough etc.

recx at lba for 2013,i wonder if a monarch aircraft will operate the program on there behalf when they finally put it on sale. sm1

I called into Thomas Cook's in Morley this afternoon and asked if the Leeds holiday flights were due. The staff told me that it would be a few weeks yet as they are trying to arrange a contract with LBA about basing an aircraft there, but they could book me on Jet2 Holidays flights OK.

Someone that works at tcx travel agents in Bradford gave me there latest take. They still said that they had been told that ongoing negotiations were taking place betwean tcx and lba as to whether they would base there own aircraft and negotiations were also ongoiing with Monarch to use their aircraft and that it could still take up to 2 weeks.

IF its true that there are ongoing negotiations with LBA over a TCX base, you have to wonder why. They have had an aircraft based at LBA now for years, and Airtours before them, so why is there now all this delay and mystery. Are LBA trying to secure a new deal with higher fees perhaps, which is hardly likely to go down well with TCX - now especially when they are struggling financially. It just seems rather odd, given that LBA have said that increasing their charter offerings is a priority.

I have been saying for some time about them using Monarch in addition to Thomson, and it still wouldn't surprise me if they did. However, since, according to LBA, it will be September before we find out what Monarch are doing next summer from LBA, I hope we don't have to wait so long to find out about TCX!

Thomas Cook need to announce what they are planning to do with LBA next year. If they plan on pulling out then they may as well announce it as the delay is not helping the airport plan ahead for next year. I'm hoping they stay but the longer this goes on the less likely they'll stay.

thomas cook no they have a problem with there summer 2013 program from lba, the release date has been put back 3 times, lets just hope the problem can be sorted out in time and not scraped.

I'm pretty sure there are people at the airport who have a good idea of whats happening. They are probably just trying to find an aircraft or third party to operate the flights as others have suggested.

Is it cheaper to find another operator to run the flights on an operators behalf such as Thomson using Air Europa and Monarch? Compared to using your own aircraft?

It seems Thomas Cook are looking very carefully at their fleet requirements at the moment, especially regarding replacing 757's with A321's. Maybe they will hang onto the 757's or make greater use of Monarch or other carriers.

Well it has been alluded to on dried fruit that Monarch may be getting some Airbus' from Thomas Cook in the fleet reshuffle and rationalisation. So it could well be the case that Monarch and Thomas Cook are entering into an agreement, and Monarch may well end up operating on behalf of Thomas Cook on a number of routes from the UK.

Could this be the begining of the end for TCX?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
