Apologies Mathers, that is correct i know better than that ! In terms of BCN anyhow ...

After some research there TLY, you are correct. I wasn’t aware that TUI only had a single based B757 during vast parts of the Winter - I thought it was more. In that case, scrap most of what i’ve just said, it’s more of an industry wide issue of seasonality !

Juts a slight correction that Vueling in fact operate 2 x weekly to Malaga & Alicante throughout the winter. One of these routes may be 3 x weekly

Actually, CWL doesn't do much worse than BRS with TUI in winter. There is only one B757 operating for much of the week and it's only busier (than CWL) on Fridays and at weekends with the ski season when an additional B757 and a B738 are brought in.

In fact, I don't think there are any flights on Wednesdays at BRS for at least part of the winter.

I'm basing these comments on last winter. I haven't checked the coming winter in any detail.

With VLY the morning arrival back at CWL is 09.45 and the evening is 18.20.
With CDG it will only be able to connect to the afternoon flight on Mondays and Fridays which departs at 15.45.
For TXL it will be on Thursdays and it departs at 13.55.
For MXP it will be on Monday and Fridays and it departs at 10.05.
For Jersey it would be Monday and Friday with 14.45 departure on Monday and 17.35 on Friday.
For Belfast it would be Monday to Friday with a departure at 19.15
For Edinburgh it would be Monday to Friday with a departure at 19.45.
Out of them the only one which wouldn't work is Milan, problem for some is that the return flights would require long layovers but even if only 5 or 6 people used them a day it would be a big boost to VLY. If Eastern could find the crews maybe it could even warrant a 3rd daily flight?

Thanks for the info Jerry, I see one large obstacle for 3 x daily frequency and that is Eastern Airways are getting paid to operate these flights at a rate of 2 x daily (Mon-Fri). Many people are against the current PSO route and I doubt that we will see any capacity increases unless the unpopular decision is made to increase the subsidy.

Yeah that could be a snag along with crew availability.

New route !

Venice- Marco Polo (VCE)

27th March start- 2 X weekly on Saturdays and Tuesday's

Saturday

BE 4563 CWL 06:30 - VCE 09:45
BE 4564 VCE 10:15 - CWL 11:40

Tuesday

BE 4563 CWL 11:10- VCE 14:30
BE 4564 VCE 15:30 - CWL 16:20

Very good addition and one that should do well, Italy has proved popular from CWL over the last few years with MXP becoming a solid all year around route, Whilst recent additions VRN and particularly FCO seeing good figures over its first summer, hopefully VCE will follow suit

Excellent news that this has finally been announced/put on-sale.

The slots have been showing this for a while now. A great route to add to CWL’s portfolio, and certainly one i’d be interested in on a personal level.

A great route! I agree that this should do well. EZY and FR both compete on the route at BRS, with FR recently changing from TSF to VCE.
Does that mean all the gaps are filled in the schedule?

There are still gaps in the scheduele.

Wednesday - the E195 currently sits idle between 09:35 returning from DUB and departing to EDI at 17:50, S17 this was the MXP route which is currently not available for S18 being reduced to 3x weekly

Wednesday - one of the E175's will be idle between 13:50 returning from GLA and departing to BHD at 19:15

Saturday - one of the E175's after returning from VCE at 11:40 currently sits idle for the rest of the day

Sunday - E195's first flight isnt until 09:45; can easily fit in a domestic flight there.

So even if the MXP flight reappears, there still is a gap on Wed and Sat to fit in another route, or increase frequencies

That is good news! With the gaps Liam has pointed out as well then there should still be more to come hopefully it'll be either new French routes or maybe Croatia.

Looking at the seat maps it also looks like they have changed the base back to 2 E195s and 1 E175.

Nice to have a new route on the departure screens. I'm glad this has finally been released to allow enough time for passengers to book.

The route has been sitting in the slots system for some time as Tinkerman has pointed out.
Any other routes sitting in the slot system not on sale?

A route that ought to succeed without any problems. I can't remember CWL having a regular Venice route before. Can anyone?

Apart from the odd cruise charter i don't think it has. I do really hope as well they look to continue it in the winter as well.

Venice, the historic capital city of Northern Italy’s Veneto region located in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea, needs no introduction as one of the world’s leading tourist destinations. Its claim to fame is many and various and includes being a World Heritage Site with rich and diverse architecture; named the Most Beautiful City in the World in 2016; the location for numerous well-known films, TV shows and music videos and the setting for many works of literature and adapted productions.

Additionally, Venice serves as a popular port for a number of cruise operators and is an ideal destination for customers who wish to embark on a cruise around the Mediterranean, with flight times scheduled to suit the needs of cruise customers.

Ronnie Matheson, Flybe’s Interim Chief Commercial Officer comments: “We are pleased to offer passengers this brand new route to Venice as part of our 2018 Summer schedule. It boosts further the large selection of flights to great city and sun destinations available from our popular Cardiff base.

“The ongoing success of our services from Cardiff Airport reflects Flybe’s commitment to listening and responding to the needs of our customers, who are increasingly enjoying the time and cost-saving convenience of travelling from their own regional airport. We would advise people to book their summer breaks now to take advantage of our early bird low fares.”

Deb Barber, CEO of Cardiff Airport, added: “There’s no place quite like Venice. It offers miles of waterways, cobbled streets and hidden gems located on every corner. And, while it’s the ideal romantic destination, it’s also a very useful access point for cruise customers across the region. Our customers eagerly await the start of this route - it’s another welcome addition to Flybe’s ever-growing choice of destinations.”

In total, Flybe’s 2018 Summer schedule from Cardiff features 17 routes with a total choice of up to 75 flights a week.

Reading the comments from BE, it does appear that they seem to be very happy with the CWL base. It's also encouraging to see them add and develop routes quickly where they see a gap to do so.

There are still gaps in the scheduele.

Wednesday - the E195 currently sits idle between 09:35 returning from DUB and departing to EDI at 17:50, S17 this was the MXP route which is currently not available for S18 being reduced to 3x weekly

There has been some updates in the system since I last posted this.

Wednesday - the E195 currently sits idle between 09:35 returning from DUB and departing to EDI at 17:50, S17 this was the MXP route which is currently not available for S18 being reduced to 3x weekly - This will now be replaced with another FAO, meaning it will increase to 5x weekly.

Saturday - one of the E175's after returning from VCE at 11:40 currently sits idle for the rest of the day

This will now operate JER and DUS after it arrives back from VCE. EDI will also be operated now although with a EDI based aircraft

The other gap on Wednesday and Sunday have yet to be filled as of yet.

They must be confident that they can fill an extra Faro flight and Ryanair must not be effecting them. It's a pity Alicante and Malaga aren't 7 weekly as well.

Interesting they are using a EDI based aircraft I wonder if in the future they may add more rotations in the week with EDI based aircraft?

Unless they change the times if i remember correctly those slots roughly would fit about a 2 hour flight. So southern France or northern Spain could be a possibility or possibly somewhere like Prague?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
