It left on Thursday (which I went to see, for the first time!) and it's not returning for a month as it's going around the country I believe. Should be the end of the month when it's back, so plenty of time for you to plan!

Does anyone know why a Glasgow bound Thomson B757, G-OOBR is currently circling around DSA this evening?? Its not following the runway pattern so is not doing circuits but is flying over at 11,000ft and by the looks of things, has been doing for a while?!
According to flightradar and its aicraft trails the Thomson 214 flight is the Antalya to Glasgow route. Any info would be appreciated.

It was burning of fuel for a pending divert to DSA. But Op's decided at last minute to redirect the aircraft to Manchester instead where it eventually landed.

[textarea]Fighter jets escort private jet in to Robin Hood Airport

RAF fighter jets were scrambled to escort an executive jet to Robin Hood Airport after concerns were raised about its flightpath, the Star reports. Two Typhoon fighters were sent to intercept the aircraft after it had changed course with explanation. Police met the crew and passengers at the airport when it landed.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson told the newspaper: ‘Police were alerted to a potential issue with an aircraft attempting to land at Robin Hood Airport on Wednesday afternoon. Officers attended the airport and once the plane landed, it became clear that this aircraft posed no risk to the airport or the public. The matter is not being investigated further.’

A spokesman for the airport added: ‘We can confirm that a small business jet was escorted to land at Robin Hood Airport by two RAF aircraft. The matter was subsequently dealt with by South Yorkshire Police, however this had no impact on operations or for passengers using the airport.’

The incident happened in the middle of the afternoon when the aircraft is reported to to have changed its flight plans mid-air because of a technical fault.

With the strong and varied business sector that we possess there are undoubtedly growth areas to tap into. In discussion with our partners at KLM we hope to bring an additional turnaround to Schiphol. But it will not happen overnight, and we need the whole region pulling with us

Although a story about MME, inevitably Steve Gill will be trying his hand at offering KLM to move from HUY (or compete with themselves and operate both)...

We shall see, but I think they may have a tough job convincing them to do so..

I don't understand why the management of Doncaster airport always say they want to pull passengers away from Newcastle, Leeds and Humberside. The airport they really aught to be pulling passengers away from is Manchester where the majority of leakage goes from the Yorkshire region.

Yorkshire has population similar to that of Scotland. Edinburgh and Glasgow airports handle 15 million passengers between them. That's before you even take into account other smaller airports like Aberdeen that handle around the same number of passengers as Leeds Bradford airport here in Yorkshire.

Similarly to Leeds Bradford airport, Doncaster needs to concentrate on clawing back passengers from Manchester if they are to succeed in increasing their passenger numbers.

I think they know that its an uphill struggle against MAN. I would also think that many South Yorkshire pax use EMA and BHX too. There is a market there, but realistically with consolidation with the airlines and heavy competition it is always going to be difficult. Unfortunately even more so for HUY and in particular MME.

Interestingly, the number or people using HUY who had O&Ds in South Yorkshire when it had more flights was something like 7% of the total passenger figures. The numbers from the MME catchment area were even smaller, so I still dont see why it is a major target (with the obvious exception of KLM, who have Im told have recently agreed another long-term deal with HUY).

Its a shame Easyjet didn't fully committ to DSA, however I would have thought that had yields been that good then a proper base could have been set up. Perhaps the management need to take a leaf out of Stobarts book and offer a similar deal to theirs.

For two years I have been on low pay and unable to afford to use an airport, however for the 8 years before that I was a fairly frequent traveller, and from my position in the south of sheffield, I used quite a few airports.
1) The first choice was which airport flies to the required destination
2) The second was price
After that I would decide how to get to and from the airport, I prefer to use trains if possible but if it has to be the car that will do.

Anyhow the most convenient airport by car was East Midlands. It is possible to drive there much quicker than DSA. The second and third most convenient was MAN and Liverpool because of the excellent train service as long as the fight times were during the day.

I never got to fly from DSA because they didn't have the destinations we were seeking. Although my girlfriend used it once when visiting her friend in Belfast but she missed the flight because the shuttle bus took 2 hours between Donny Train station and the airport due to traffic problems. She returned the next day and caught the flight after leaving even more time.

With these issues I seriously think that if the Airport had the FARRRS road built and you could drive from sheffield centre to DSA in 22 minutes, then there would be some seriously large demand from sheffield.

RAF plane emergency at Robin Hood Airport

An RAF aircraft made an emergency landing at Robin Hood Airport yesterday after one of its engines failed

The Saudi Royal Air Force Hercules was approaching the airport when it experienced problems with one of its four engines. A spokesman for Robin Hood Airport said the aircraft declared a full emergency as a precautionary measure and landed safely there just after 15:30.

Five councillors have been nominated to form a committee that will monitor noise concerns at Robin Hood Airport, the South Yorkshire Times reports.

The Robin Hood Airport Consultative Committee has agreed to merge the Noise Monitoring and Community Committees to form the Noise Monitoring and Environment Sub-Committee. The councillors will report on environmental impacts and community concerns - making recommendations to the Airport Consultative Committee.

I made my one and only visit to Robin Hood airport a few weeks ago and the only person I saw in the entire building was the girl in the Coffee Shop looking totaly bored. It was mid afternoon and the next flight was late evening. I wondered then if the cafe could remain open!

Things must be getting bad if even the Coffee shop can't stay open. :shok: Was the Costa Coffee part of a franchise group of shops at the airport or was it stand alone does anybody know? It's a real shame it's closing. I don't know how much more DSA can take. I've not seen a glimmer of good news about Doncaster airport for some time. Is there any good news out there?
