Yes this time it's the government 'peddling' the new empty promise of transport money for our region.
I don’t dispute that. But the council are just as bad as the government they have continually pulled this city further behind in my opinion.

The only people who like the councils schemes are cyclists as they’re experts when it comes to cycle lanes(y)

To give an idea of what you’d get for your money, the cost of installing a rapid transit surface system in the U.K. is estimated to be between £20M to £30M per kilometre of route so if all of the £830M was spent on a tramway system for Leeds (which we know it won’t be) you’d get a system covering 41 kilometres (25 miles) at the lower cost per kilometre or 27 kilometres (17 miles) at the higher cost.
In reality given the latest super tram proposal I suspect the price ( which has not been disclosed) will be far in excess of the estimates above.

I understand there is a move towards battery operated trams or at least this is possible for certain parts of the route where overhead wires might be considered difficult or too expensive to install. If this is a possibility then it may bring installation costs down considerably.

Such a system will be built in stages, not all at once, and there will be further bids for funding and hopefully, further monies from Government in response to them . I am sure I read that the priority is Leeds, and would imagine then Bradford, and then the other areas included such as Dewsbury and Huddersfield. Apart from anything else, trying to construct such a system all at once would paralyse the road networks.

As far as I'm concerned when it comes to truly levelling up it's very simple from the treasury. They give us the money due for transport as announced but then also a separate money pot to build this. As many have said this would be done in stages so the complete costs wouldn't be needed up front. And as they are spending an extra £800 million on transport around Yorkshire over 5 years there should in theory be a rise in economic prosperity and therefore more money collected through taxes and then spent. Speculate to accumulate. Thats certainly how I'd be working it anyway. Quite old fashioned principles but you know ones which seem to have common and business sense.

@White Heather roads are bad enough without them clogging it up even further. But we do have the 198212983 cycle lanes too thank for that.

The problem is that there is no guarantee that funding for various stages in the future will be forthcoming. Just look at HS2 where in all likelihood the Eastern leg to Leeds will not go ahead due to spiralling costs. Pessimistic I know but realistic. Still, at least a start is being made with the latest central Government funding.

That's always the risk with major infrastructure projects. Unless it's London or Greater Manchester of course where the 'Ive started so I'll finish method is applied consistently. If we get a tram system covering Leeds and Bradford only it will be a surprise. Whether I am here long enough to see it remains to be seen. I am getting tired of waiting now.

If you not already aware, Transdev has won a funding bid to upgrade the "Flyerbuses" fleet. The Airport A1, A2 & A3 services are currently operated by a fleet of single deck Optare Versa's, but these will now be replaced by a brand new fleet of zero emissions, all electric single deck vehicles.

This as all part of a Multimillion-pound package to deliver huge fleet of electric and hydrogen powered buses across England.

Very interesting - not sure how this will work for everyone. Whilst "Greener" I'm sure, given the recent increase in price of electricity it will be expensive to run.

Also where will they charge these vehicles. Of course Harrogate is fine as they've already got that infrastructure. But I wonder where else? Possibly the airport its self?

Unsure why they are saying they will start to implement fines in the red zone. As far as I knew they were already being levied by the council.
The red route roads as existing are Council controlled and nothing to do with LBA, so, as you rightly say, the Council are already fining people who illegally stop. Perhaps LBA are changing some of the double yellow lines within the airport itself into double red lines due to people parking without consideration. Or perhaps, once again, this hopeless excuse for a paper has git itself mixed up and published something that's not quite as it is. After all, what better way to stir up yet more anti airport bike than to suggest LBA are to fine people when Inn fact it's the Council. You can just see the 'money grabbing' and 'greedy' headlines now!

The article says the airport COO said "the last thing we want to do is issue fines" so sounds like they are re designating some of the areas within the airports curtilage. Not very good timing.

I got a fine for stopping on the red route by the Travelodge. Except I didnt stop! I contested it and the fine was dropped. Excuse was made that maybe the wind affected the camera. The video didnt show me stopping so they mustnt check before they issue tickets. Beware!

Probably all automated and the council just issue tickets on the basis of what the camera allegedly captures, and that if you didn't actually do anything, you will challenge it. Then they check. And if you're daft enough to pay up, they get money for nothing.

LBA has painted red lines on its land and is about to start issuing penalties. They are on the roads leading to the car parks and the entrance to the security gate house. It's going to be camera controlled, not sure if it's been contracted out.

I would expect the cameras will be ANPR but the issuing of tickets is likely going to be contracted out unless LCC are operating it.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
